Hey there. I am a beginner in game development & have very little experience in Unity. I've been looking for a while now, but I can't find a (free) sail-ship model. I am not even sure if this is the right forum for this sort of thing, but in any case, is there a chance anyone could help me out & create one, or point one out to me? I'd be very grateful. I am not picky about its style (Cartoony, realistic, etc.) nor its detail. As long as it's a 3D model of a sail ship, I'll be happy.
    Thanks in advance :)

Wow, guess I just missed it :p
There wasn't a sail-ship there (For free), but I guess a wooden ship will be useful until I get further into my project.
    Thank you very much :)

What type of ship were you looking for?
Pirate? Ancient Sail ship? Modern day Sail ship? etc?

I'm creating a game about sailing, economy and warfare on 16th century in Europe. I preffered to build my models myself on Blender :p

I am creating a team-based pirate game, so pirate ship it is :p
I know that it is preferred to create one's models yourself, however I have yet to learn how to model (I know, I just suck), so I usually rely on some free models until I get really into my game and want to polish it.

What about a collaboration? maybe togheter we can do a better game.

Anyway, google "free 3d sail ship model" there are plenty of them. I preffered to make a generic low poly model.

    I made three models:
    - The body of the boat (the part on water, usually a rigidbody)
    - Sailmasts (because their arm can rotate around y axis, and bacuse i projected to make their parts replaceable)
    - Sails (because you can enlarge/take down and because wind can modify their shape)

Later when the game is in a good stage i simply change models with high poly/high res... and a LOD

I am very deeply honored that you'd offer me to collab together, however I must refuse for I am kiiiind of REALLY bad at this. Seriously. If anything, I'd slow you down.
Also, I am studying at the moment, so I only work on game projects during my free time (So basically never).
In any case, I'd still love to keep in contact.

I still couldn't really find any models (Or at least in any form I could use :p)

    Thanks for the reply Clicksurfer.
So it's a pirate ship you want?
    Neat!
    Cool! :D

I found this one on Blender swap.
If you use it, you must give credit to the creator of the ship.

But something tells me, you probably want something closer to this one below

PS: Believe me when I say, 3D modelling is much easier than most people think. :p

That is absolutely amazing and so are you. Thank you very much!
I have a friend that has recently started using Unity, and actually already knows some modelling using Blender, so I might have him teach me a bit. Thank you all very much for all your support! :D

For those intending to model their own, you can find blue prints on many websites out there. If you're new to modeling, you may not know that the way you model is to import reference photos in as 2D planes. Then in orthographic projection you can set your vertices to match the exact shape of the reference image. If you have references from all sides, or at least front and side, this will take you a long ways towards sculpting a shape that looks right.
