Hi! I was wondering what roles there are in developing a full Unity game. I know it depends what game it is. I was thinking a 3d fighting game, no story, only multiplayer. What would I need? Programmers, modellers, animators and what else? Just a steam game, not aiming for GameStop or something. Thanks!

You'd need at least one game designer, and not just any programmers, for the specific roles you'd need at least a gameplay engineer, a network engineer for multiplayer, maybe a UI engineer/artist, possibly a technical artist to work with your animators, texture artist, environment artist. And depending on how large this project is, you may need a producer, a program manager, and if it's part of a company, don't forget your accountant, lawyer, and marketing and advertising team.

Well, I really got carried away with the roles, but it really just depends on your game design, and how you plan on using Unity. You'd need to reveal a lot more of your design requirements and visual target to get a more accurate answer.

Look around the forums especially the Work In Progress and Showcase forums. You only NEED one very ambitious developer who is eager to learn and make the game.

A three man band is probably the smallest and easiest to get decent results with. You've got the three fields of art, programming, and audio that require some amount of specialization in them to be competent. You still need to watch your scope, but it's doable.

There is something that just pains me about gamestop being in higher regards than steam.

Are you designing characters from scratch? Do you want original music?

I have an audio developer, and yes, I would need to design and animate the characters.

Well have you ever seen an Indie game at Gamestop? Steam is filled with Indies.

    You'll need to:
    - Hire concept artist to draw your characters in all their various poses, leave nothing to guesswork.
    - Have them also design some environments
    - Hire a 3d artist who can match your artwork and do the animations.
    - also have him do the backgrounds
    - Hire a 2d designer/artist for gui and portaits
    - Hire a programmer to build the fighting engine and "put it together".

And various people to playtest it, since it is multiplayer this may require bribing guys to play.

    Best of luck
