    Project title - RetroRange
    Now in Early Access on Steam & Itch.io!



    This is my first video game project, and with that in mind, the idea was to make a small-scope game with about a 5-minute experience however, I have expanded my original gameplay plans. My idea was to create a Shooting range, set up with a retro cyberpunk style, color, & theme. The range is equipped with various weapon pickups, ammo, and health packs. Also, it includes a few different targets to shoot with some destructible objects that can be picked up and moved. The idea of this project is to build a good FPS foundation with basic core features to be able to use in future projects.

    Features/Content implemented (As of 9/13/22):
    • Player controller (First person) - Opsive U.C.C.
    • First Person Arms - Generic Animations
    • Weapon Pickups (Firearms) - pistol, AK, auto shotgun, pump shotgun, sniper rifle (All have aiming down sights. Sniper has aiming scope ability. All re-spawn.)
    • Ammo Pickups - for each firearm, pistol, AK, auto shotgun, pump shotgun, sniper rifle (all re-spawn)
    • Health pack pickups (all re-spawn)
    • Intractable Objects that can be picked up and moved (Physics collides with appropriate colliders.)
    • Targets (With health system and re-spawning. Specific position hit with damage multiplier. One target with hinged physic.)
    • Stereo with on/off music
    • Tooney Colors 2 (Shader by Jean Moreno)
    • Added more objects (objects to pick up, move, and destroy)(Add collision sounds)
    • Free demo client (Live, I will update the demo alongside the full game.)
    • Credits listing - (Completed, Need to update as Patreon and Kickstarter support)
    • 11 Languages are available with Language Translation - Lean Localization (Carlos Wilkes) The following languages are now available English, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.

    • More Level gameplay, (going to extend the range to outdoors with more gameplay)

    • Steam Achievements
    • VR Version of RetroRange (separate client)

    A lot more interactable objects to shoot, move throw and play around with! A few new health pick-ups, hot dogs, pop, and pizza. A bunch of new things to mess with, TP, TV, Microwave, controllers, tool, toys, and cardboard boxes. Still, some tweaking to do on them such as adding sounds.

    Implemented the language translation for all main menu text. Next need to translate the other scenes. In-game text and Credits text. This was a very tedious procedure, but hey it works well.

    Within the last few weeks, I have been working on getting multiple languages set up on all UI text elements within all scenes. The following languages are now available English, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. Within the next month, I will be working on getting controller binding options set up, and mouse sensitivity adjustments. Planning on updating the demo client as soon as I am able. Going to make Linux and Mac clients available for both the demo and full game.

    Haven't posted in a few days. But I have been working on the project. Not on the game itself but working on the Steam page. Had lots of paperwork to submit and started working on the draft page for RetroRange. here is a sneak peek. Still have a lot of writing ahead for the Steam page. As an FYI the release date in the picture is not accurate. It will be changed to coming soon. But fear not, it will be released this year of course!

    Ok, it's been a week since I have been able to do anything on my videogame project RetroRange or any work at 788garagestudio Last week my family and I got Covid and we had to "quarantine" all last week. With watching my daughter and not feeling the best last week there was not any time to work on the project. This week things are back to normal, so progress should continue forward.

    Here are some updates on what's being worked on...
    I am still working on the Steam RetroRange Demo page. Need to set up the Linux & Mac builds. Then I can submit it for review.

    I have recently hired an Advertising Agency, they are going to help market my Kickstarter project. There will be an article written about the project to promote.     I also now have access to a DIY outreach to backers, youtube, and an advertiser database. This is all new to me and I am hoping that this can help promote my business and project, I'm currently a one-man studio so it's best for the sake of my time to seek help when I can afford it.

    The Steam Demo page review passed! I have done a little work on the page. Set up the page Localization for different languages that are compatible with RetroRange.

    If you haven't noticed I have updated my future features with plans to add on an outdoor range with more gameplay. I also plan on finishing this version of RetroRange I will be doing a VR version of RetroRange.

    Kickstarter is up to 10 Backers now with 28 days left.

    Found a bug while using the Sniper. After reloading the animation the mag doesn't despawn on the left-hand transition point. You can see the mag is left on the hand transition point while the pistol is equipped. Working on smashing this today and a few other things.

    Plus an update on my plans with current employment changes, I feel it would be the best decision to release RetroRange as an Alpha until the project is complete. Stay tuned for more information on the Alpha release, Steam will not let me release a build until Sept 27th or after. I'll also have the alpha available on Itch.io

    Kickstarter is now up to 11 backers and 27 days left!

    Getting mouse keyboard control & controllers set up. this is a prototype. Still, quite a bit to do, including improving the looks of the control binding UI elements, and binding controls for different controllers. RetroRange game submitted for review on Steam waiting for clearance then Early Access will be available on steam too.

    The Range building is almost complete, here are some pictures and a video of the updates. Set up an opening door to get outside of the building, and set up the door to get to the indoor range scene. Lots more to do for this scene. Next on my list is to generate a terrain to get a starting point for designing more of the outdoor range. Also, an update on early access of RetroRange on Steam should be available in the next 2 weeks.

    The Range building is just about complete. This is the indoor range with a new feature of going outdoors. Have a lot of gameplay elements that need to be added to the outdoor range it's currently empty.

    The Kickstarter funding may have been unsuccessful, but in my opinion, it was successful. If you don't fail then you don't learn, and if you are not failing then you are not taking chances in doing something. This isn't going to stop further progress in RetroRange development, the plans are to finish the project and move to another project afterward. Thank you to those who were backers on Kickstarter!


    Worked on the outdoor range today. added more props. Still needs a little bit more filler and then on to some gameplay elements!

    Set up a destructible vehicle, and changed the bullet impact particle and decal effects. It's always fun blowing stuff up!
