I have an ongoing feud with an asset developer who wouldn't refund me. It had bugs and was short of time to help him debug it on my computer. The entire point of this asset was to save time.

Long story short he denied my refund and I reviewed him poorly. After getting my reviews removed due to that being part of their policy I wrote about bugs instead. They removed that one as well.

This is an ongoing issue with Unity from many others who say pretty much all reviews are effectively curated to increase sales. I have given over 20 5-star reviews, and all of my 1-2s are gone. I think I had 2 in total.

I understand that developers need some protection, but you have gone too far in one direction. As with everything there needs to be balance.

I suggest you take a hard look at your competition who is growing much faster than you and start to provide some customer service so that long-standing Unity veterans like myself will continue to support you on our platforms.

    Thanks

Unity asset store is the worst online store that I deal with it. I eager to switch that competitor(s).

Do you have the text of these reviews to show here?

Nope they disappeared, while one is still around, but it's rating was blanked out and is no longer public. I spoke about bugs right out of the box, nothing else. I'm sure my initial review was a case for future removal.

As a developer we are subject to reviews as well I don't think I need to explain how difficult it is for a game developer. This curated review system should be considered fraudulent.

Asset authors can't delete reviews, is the thing. They can only report them.

I assumed that is how they are getting reviews removed through the reporting system. If they had the option to remove their own reviews well we'd all know and it would be a joke.

I don't really know how it all works, but the fact they are gone is alarming.

The fact they're gone but also we don't have any idea what your reviews said is more alarming to me. The lack of details here is something I've dealt with a lot from a customer service perspective when fielding complaints and there's almost always more to the story.

Wow. I don't really know what to say to that.

Given that you've mentioned an "ongoing feud" and you can't provide the contents of the reviews which would be reviewed by Unity before being taken down and the whole "take a hard look at your competition who is growing much faster than you and start to provide some customer service" thing at the end? The most dubious looking party here is you.

"This version unfortunately comes with bugs right out of the box. Very frustrating experience."

The first review I do not have, but it was about refunds and how it had error messages. It was removed due to mentions about a refund. That makes sense.

Sorry to say this, but even as only a buyer of assets, I cannot deem this a useful or really fair review, no matter how buggy it may be (and I have encountered buggy assets of course).
There just is no content and that's why the reporting feature exists. How about describing what bugs you encountered and how your targetted usage was diminished by them?
Since in the end there is no bug free software since pong was developed.

This. I read recent reviews before I consider purchasing assets but if they don't provide details I just ignore them as I've run into plenty of situations where people left one sentence reviews saying it was broken only to discover that it wasn't at all broken or only had minor bugs that were easily fixed. Occasionally the review is correct but it's rare.

Still wonder whether that should be grounds for removal. Or at least seems that one-sentence 5 star reviews should then also be removed?
