If you use Unity, chances are that you "script" to some extent. The script creation workflow is engrained into your mind -- Create a new script, rename the script, open the script, delete and/or add methods you need, etcetera. All of this before you can do what you set out to do -- actually script something!

With uTemplate, script creation just became a lot easier. Using its intuitive UI, you can set up your new script before it's created. When you hit "Create" your script is generated the way you want. Focus on scripting your awesome thing; forget about the hassle of the "old workflow".

    Features
    • A Robust, Easy-to-use Interface
    • A Truly Smart Template System (including smart inheritance)
    • Powerful Presets (Save your favorite script layouts!)
    • Extensive Preferences (Customize indentation type, line endings, and more!)
    • Compatible with Unity Free and Pro (Dark/Light Skin)
    • Built-in MonoBehaviour Methods (get helpful documentation-based comments out-of-the-box!)
    • Flexible Built-in Templates (MonoBehaviours, ScriptableObjects, Editors, and more!)
    • Easily accessible via the Assets menu, or Right-click menu.

More of a visual person? Here's a few screenshots:

Questions and comments are more than welcome. This is our biggest asset to date, so we're pretty excited to finally release it!

uTemplate has been submitted to the Asset Store and should be available soon.

In the meantime, the WIP Beta thread will remain open, so you can give a fully-functional version of uTemplate a spin for free. You can see the WIP thread, here.

Congratulations on finishing uTemplate. Hope it does well for you. Really looking forward to trying this out. Had lot's of other stuff crop up so desperately behind with current game dev. As soon as finished though will be testing this out.

    :)

Thanks! I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how more people use uTemplate. You were a great early beta tester, so I definitely appreciate your feedback.

Keep an eye out for a special thank-you PM on our forums around the time uTemplate releases. :)

Hi, @DawidMoza! uTemplate will launch at $35. I wanted to keep the price reasonable and approachable, especially for the early beta users that upgrade from the early beta to the Asset Store version.

    Congratualtions on getting it finished!

For anyone interesting in buying this every beta I tested was rock solid. In fact I can't remember any issues. All feedback was based on requests and suggestions. So all in all exactly same experience as with uNote. Rock solid and useful:)

I just realised that I hadn't tried it in Unity 5.5 so did a quick test. It seems to be working sweet. One of things i like about uTemplate is the way the methods are listed. Sometimes you think about using a method to do something then see another in the list that may be better. Really nice seeing them there in the drop down and not having to go the to script pages on the unity site for reference all the time.

Whenever I use utTemplate though it reminds me how much of a beginner programmer I am. It's deceptively simple to use but in the right hands I imagine to be a powerful tool.

Thanks! And thanks for the kind words and recommendations!

Great to hear -- I tested it in the major versions from 4.7 to 5.5, but it's always nice to hear that things are working as they should! You beta testers definitely found some stuff that I missed, so I definitely appreciate it. :)

I've got a few tweaks I'd like to add to uTemplate after using it in my own project for the last few weeks, so I'll be going back and tweaking some things as I need them. But first I'm getting the logistics of early access downloads working on our support forum, so anyone who purchases it can get ahead-of-Asset-Store releases. (And, of course, I'll be pulling the random winners from the beta testing giveaway early next week!)

    No problem.

This should only make it better as comes from real world usage.

    All sounds good:)

All the best anyway for 2017.

Just a quick update: the lucky beta testers that won prizes from the Early Beta Giveaway have been contacted. You'll have to head over to our forum and log in to see if you have any messages.

I've also got everything set up for early access downloads -- if you've purchased uTemplate and would like to request download access, you can read about how to do that here.

Here's a quick preview of one of the things I've been working on for the next uTemplate release:

    uTemplateOpenScript.png

With this Preference enabled, uTemplate will automatically open scripts in your default IDE after they've been created. This actually ended up being really handy (moreso than I originally thought!), and a huge time saver in terms of simplifying the usual "create script, wait for compile, open script, edit script" workflow.

uTemplate v0.65 has just been shipped to the Asset Store team for review!

You can read about the changes in its forum thread here. It should be available on the Asset Store in a few days.

This release brings some really nice workflow and ease-of-use upgrades. To name a few...

    Automatic Script Opening
    uTemplateOpenScript.png
This helps cut down some of the repetitiveness of the usual "create script, wait for compile, open script, edit script", as the script will be opened and ready for editing in your default IDE almost immediately. Very handy, but be sure to enable it if you want it (as it's disabled by default).

    Quick-Switching via Hotkeys
    uTemplateGif7_(Quick-Switch).gif.gif

Quick-Switching lets you toggle between the currently-selected window, and an open uTemplate instance by using the same hotkey combo that opens uTemplate (Ctrl+Shift+T by default). This works extremely well with uTemplate docked in the same window area as the Scene and Game window (as seen above). It lets you easily pop over to uTemplate, create a script, and then pop back to your previously-selected window just by pressing the hotkey combo each time you want to switch.

    Docked Window Upgrades
Docked windows will now update their folder/file paths in the background, so they're more likely to have the folder destination pre-filled for you when you switch over to uTemplate. uTemplate is now even more useful when it's docked!

uTemplate is 30% off in the Madness Sale (less than $25 bucks)! If it's been on your wishlist (or if you just found it!) now's a great time to pick it up, as it likely won't be on sale for a while!

Here's a two GIFs showing some basic features!

Looks like uTemplate's time in the sale is over. No notifications were sent to us, so I couldn't do my usual "last day on sale" update. It's been a confusing sale for everyone, I think, so my apologies if you missed uTemplate's discount!

Looks like uTemplate's back on sale again! Now all of our assets (U2DEX, uNote, and uTemplate) are on sale for 30% off!

Slightly confusing, but for those of you who emailed about the sale ending early uTemplate's now on sale for an extra week. :)

I am considering purchasing this asset. When do you plan to update again? Are there any videos where I can see how this works?

    Hi there @RadioactiveBullfrog!

Regarding the first part of your question, a new feature update is almost ready-to-go -- it's just undergoing some more internal testing. It's already been tested by some users on our forum, but some of the internals were changed to support new features, so extra testing was needed to make sure everything's still stable.

Regarding the second part of your question, there are currently no videos showing off uTemplate. There are some GIFs in this thread here showing off some functionality, as well as a few (possibly a bit outdated) GIFs in uTemplate's original WIP thread over here.
