With that asset I created the stamps for the Organic Shapes. It would be easy to create the shapes / stamps for other primitives. But I get the point, if it's ready to use, it would be definitely more interesting. Especially eg terraced pyramids from some ancient Maya temple and such. I'll see what I can do

I tried out Nature Manufacture's Lava & Volcano Environment (LVE) to make an active volcano.

Here's "Volcano 01" from the Volcanos StampIT pack, with a lava lake and two rivers. Of course, one could still tweak a lot, but I just wanted to try things out quickly, and give a small impression how the stamp can be used in practice.

Information about the recent stamp updates:

I had to update all my stamps and put the terrain stamp brushes into a zip file. In order to use them with the terrain tools please just unzip the file

Assets/Rowlan/Terrain/Stamps/<stampname>/Brushes/Brushes.zip

in the folder it's in. That information is also as readme in each stamp asset and in the documentation.

The reason behind this:

Unity's Terrain Tools load all brushes into memory in order to use them eg for the terrain tools palette. With an increasing number of heightmaps this might become a problem for some users regarding memory. Especially if you have all my stamp assets installed in a single project which is closing in on 800 soon.

Unity does not intend to fix their memory problem. You can voice your opinion in this forum thread or directly in the Unity issue. You can verify by checking Unity's memory usage increase by simply clicking on the terrain gameobject, nothing else. This is a severe, critical bug that Unity "Won't Fix".

My hands are tied on this one and I'd like to keep manual interactions as short as possible, but unfortunately you have to unzip that file now instead of having the asset ready-to-use with the terrain tools after installation. I don't want you to potentially run out of memory without knowing why it might be happening. This will happen to every stamp asset there is that supports Unity's terrain tools, even Unity's own samples.

Please note that other assets like MicroVerse don't have that limitation, MicroVerse has proper memory management with the Content Browser. Just install whichever number of stamp assets you want and you're good to go.

 

Awesome! This helped to get attention, Unity already released a fix in the latest Alpha, from the release notes:

• Terrain: Enabled loading of brushes for the Terrain Inspector to now defer creating full-resolution brush textures until the brush is being used, making the Terrain Inspector faster to open and use less memory.

I'll keep the brushes in a zip file for a while, not sure if Unity will back-port the fix.
