    Hey! :)

Here is a video of the current (WIP) state for the next update:

The light manager script works great! This allows me to put thousands of light points in the spaceship, but I only activate some of them in real time, all others are 'off' if you are not in the nearby area. deferred lighting is a very good rendering engine... Without vsync i get a FPS between 120/150 on a NVidia 3060

I repeat : Without other display optimizations! If you want more FPS => Disable all lights except the directional and few into the modules... I provide the most nice lightning i can make => If you don't like it? => Or you want more FPS? => Disable them!

I think to release soon another beta version, but i want to finish first the kitchen module...

The music has been made by me! (IA... I'm not musician) I'll include it in the package for free!

Working on the doors to separate the HAB modules... I released the package this morning! I hope you like it?

If you have 5 min of your time:

    1) Do you like the beta release? Or do you like final releases?

    2) Do you understand the spaceship modularity? Or it's a bit obscur?

    3) Did you test to build another ship?

    4) Are you working on a serious project with the kit 4 ?

    upload_2024-4-23_8-2-20.png

Edit: Just for information, i took a Aura 2 licence to test it with the kit, and it work good! No problem with Unity 2020.3.16. It give volumetric lightning for any light into the scene (Directional/PointLight/SpotLight)

    https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/tools/particles-effects/aura-2-volumetric-lighting-fog-137148

Easy to setup! Just put a component on the camera / directional / any other light. Include the post processing stack and opla! :) Who need HDRP/URP/XYZRP or any Unity crazyness after this?

    Here is some screens:

The Doors! :) I worked on a more simple system... Easy to put in place and can be used to move something else! :)

Note: Only the camera or player can pass the doors now :D

About the famous "Optimization"! :D I just included a simple script to hide/show some gameobject if you are a near/far zone. It give very good result with the big "Demo_A", you can use this component every where!

Edit: On the scene "Demo_A" i get a constant 30/120 FPS without occlusion culling, only a better lightning script and two new script to frustrum/hide/show objects!

    Nouveau projet.gif

    upload_2024-4-25_8-6-17.png

Edit: This dynamic frustrum culling script allow you to put many objects in your scene! Need to be used with Unity Occlusion culling or not! :) You can setup the distance in front of the camera to draw or not the objects.

Package released! (Beta 4) i hope you like it!

DO NOT HESITATE TO REPORT ME SOME BUG/PROBLEM/CONGRATULATION...

This update require many work... And i would like to know your feeling about this!

Note: There is a bug/forget into Demo_A, the occlusion zones are not setuped! This component allow you to draw/hide the objects into a limited zone.

    Talking about this:
    upload_2024-4-26_10-7-58.png

    It should be:
    upload_2024-4-26_10-8-45.png

    Fixed for the next update...

    The component:
    upload_2024-4-26_10-10-20.png

Allow you to hide/show some meshes/gameobjects if there are not in the camera view/distance.

It's not perfect but it allow you to get a good FPS!

If you remember this demo zone in the old package, it was around 10/15 FPS...
With this new component i get now more than 30 FPS (without occlusion culling)
and more than 60 FPS for the rest of the map :

    upload_2024-4-26_10-14-35.png

And one of the best script! Named : AutomaticLightOptimizer.cs it allow you to play with the lightning :)

Note: The lightning script need this : AutomaticLightOptimizer.cs

    upload_2024-4-26_10-52-2.png

And when when you go in/out a zone, it make the lightning smoothly shutdown :)

    upload_2024-4-26_10-55-56.png

Note: Before include the post processing stack

DO NOT FORGET TO SWITCH THE PROJECT TO LINEAR!

This is coming together really nicely! I wasn't going to have customizationable space ships in my project but now I want to. Can you please include in the next update the exterior side of the interior door for the hanger section? Also maybe some cockpit chairs / controls? I really want to start prototyping some spaceships now haha.

I need to include many type of things! The 1.9 is not released officialy yet! :) But yes cockpit chairs/computer/machine etc are planned... I don't understand for the doors? Any screen ?

But it take some time! Especially when i need to make some scripts to optimize your levels display for you! :)

Because when you receive this kind of email :

    upload_2024-4-27_7-44-13.png

I don't put all the mail text, too long... But I really like the "unusable" one... When I see the creativity that the Planet Crafter team (they are two) demonstrated with my kits (almost all the objects in the game are made with it, by construction)

It's a little discouraging to see that people absolutely don't explore the kit to understand the philosophy behind! He even criticizes me in the mail that the objects are prefabs with a hierarchy... I explained to him that this was the principle of a modular kit....

And finally I like the: “Blablabla I have a master’s degree blablabla”:

    upload_2024-4-27_7-47-4.png

You may have a master's degree?! But you don't know how to unfold a prefab to turn off the lights....

Here is my response, but I haven't received any further emails from this, but do you understand that having to respond to this kind of email is really annoying? having to tell a person that you have to unfold a prefab to deactivate the lights to get 100 more FPS?

    upload_2024-4-27_8-1-4.png

This is why I'm taking my time on update 1.9, because obviously for beginners you have to explain things, because they don't understand that putting 150 basic prefabs, with all the interiors/lights/scripts on one terrain and hope that everything will run at 120 FPS, will not work!

For optimization scripts, I'm still looking into it... all this may change, but I'm just showing examples

After a night of work, i decided to rework the culling manager, now, it use the native unity culling class:

Due to lack of documentation it was a nightmare to use (SetBoundingSpheres etc) but it allow you to
cull many objects, and with a field of view parameter and a distance! I'm happy of the result...

    It's a hell to understand: https://docs.unity.cn/2017.4/Documentation/ScriptReference/CullingGroup.html

Nicer than I would have been. I would have just sent him a sample video of it working with a decent frame rate and told him it was time to put his degree to work. But customer service isn't my strong suit.
The 'door' I'm referring to is this below: upload_2024-4-27_19-8-29.png

The inside has a door but the outside has the cover. Unless I'm being as dumb as that guy in your email, it looks like its integrated with the external mesh, so it cant just be turned off. I was looking at assembling the pieces to make a smaller ship and attached the Hanger directly to the cockpit there.
Figured you would be getting to it sooner or later, so I'm just being impatient :)
Anyway, I love your stuff man, I hope you don't get too discouraged by people like that.

Some day yes, some day no... :) About your problem, yeah that planned, but for the 2.0 not the 1.9 because i need to think a bit more the spaceship kit, i got a good one but i need to not redo the Scifi kit 3 errors :) But it's planned...

Package released! (it's always the Beta 4) I wanted to give you the final culling code...
The older was not perfect (object blincking etc...) this one is better and use a native Unity library instead!

This frustrum culling code can be used many time in one level! You can have a setup for small object style pebbles/grass/trees, another for the bigger stones? And of course, use the FOG to hide the objects appears! (Essential...)

And you can use another one with different setup (distance /angle) for the bigger objetcts that need a different frustrum! You can also modify the code with ease to make a version with OnTriggerEnter/Exit modifications to make some culling zones!

And for the local zone that need a instant display, use the script : AutomaticObjectOptimizer.cs usefull to make all the props of a room displayed ON/OFF if you are into a trigger zone. Used in the big hangars/base of the Demo_A.

It should be really cool to tell me if you notify a better FPS with the big scene like Demo_A and Demo_C?!

About the script gizmo icon! It's impossible to export it with the package, the directory is outside Assets. If you want the gizmo icons, create a "Gizmos" directory here :

    upload_2024-4-28_10-15-48.png

    And put this inside:

I'm working on a small component that allow you to draw a text container (ala Fallout 4) when you point a gameobject with a collider. You can define the distance and the angle for the pop up appear :) It"s a simple system but i can help you to make some simple things.

I've been playing with the kit under native Quest 3, and I can consistently mantain between 70 to 80 FPS with some optimizations in place. Actually I believe I will be able to squeeze some more with some extra steps. Creepy-Cat don't take any personal grief about the people that complaint, your kit is simply amazing and I dare to say it is the best on the asset store for this theme. I think those people just need some guidance. Pheraps a pdf manual on optimization, as going around the forum is quite boring.

Keep up your amazing work. You got a happy customer here.

Good to ear that, many thanks... :) I uploaded there is 2 days the Beta 5, i hope that my error (i broke some prefabs during the fustrum culling dev), if you notify some problems with button interactivity, use this topic to say me where is the problem!

I take a small break, and i'll start the cockpit elements! Pilot chair etc...

No need for cup holders. Cups are held in place by a super-high-tech invisible isokinetic stasis field... or maybe it's a magnet. Nope, just a magnet. :p

I prefer the black myself, the white sticks out a bit too much for my taste, a bit too much of a visual distraction. Just personal preference.

I really like the attention to detail on that. Very nice!

Oh I love that cockpit so much
Are the buttons & screen on cockpit panel removeable ? 'cause I would put a full touch screen with minimum buttons instead maybe with holographic effect like the Holo-table you made for Constellation spaceship in the vol3 (see attachment from Elite Dangerous)

In Star Citizen, the Aegis Eclipse cockpit

Then, I would even add "control" screens hanging from top, same for the behind seats :D

Of course, the panel is flat, just filled with the actual kit panels/buttons, with this you can create your own panel :) the cockpit you present, is more made for a combatship, in the case of my spaceship, it is more big! The pilot place take more space.

PS: A new holotable is planed!

I think to add something inspired by this, in one of my release (not 1.9, but maybe 2.0) :) In fact, in the volume 3 i integrated some turrets, but i wanted make a new one for the kit 4, this one is really cool, and with the actual kit stylish.

    Do you find it cool?

Looks cool, however it might need some modularity too ? Perhaps could be an add-on to the volume like "weapons" or "vehicles"? So we can swap, upgrade the turret itself, i don't know your plan but different turret sizes could be used: little as defensive and bigger ones for attacking (little regular battleships ?)

I'll try make my best! :) Modularity is THE word of my kits, when it's possible i try to make it :) About weapons? Yeah i plan something like this, but after the modular spaceship, i got many things to make (finish the cockpit etc)

Hey Creepy Cat....I'm a long-time fan of your stuff, and I really want to buy the latest Sci-Fi kit (I have all the others), but I have a big issue that is stopping me--my project doesn't have (and won't have) anything called "Luna Industries" or "The U.N.C." This has prevented me from using some of the other stuff I bought in previous kits (which also feature the U.N.C.), and is preventing me from buying future products. The idea of having to learn to re-texture things (with GIMP, not even Photoshop) and then actually spending countless hours painting over corporate Logos and other irrelevant text is not at all what I want in a modular kit. I can't imagine anyone really wants Luna Industries and U.N.C. logos all over everything, unless that is miraculously the name of the factions in the project (what are the odds!?). And your texture work is so superior to anything I could do as an amateur that I wouldn't even want to try to modify them.

Simply put, it is fairly easy for an amateur like me to add a custom logo to a texture (even with a simple overlay) but really tedious and difficult to remove them.

So my question is: Does the sci-fi kit Vol. 4 come with a set of "clean" textures that have no English text or corporate words, and so could be used in any project? Or are only the Luna Industries and UNC textures available? If clean textures are available, I'll buy volume 4 today.
If not available, could you make them and include them in you kits? I'm asking for all the previous kits too, since I own them and could really use some clean textures. And I promise that this would make your kits more attractive to others--I can't be the only person who isn't using "Lunar Industries, LLC" in their project! I imagine removing the text layers in photoshop and re-merging/flattening the texture would be easy for you to do (as one person, rather than having all your customers do it themselves for each project).

Anyway, I hope you realize this plea comes from a true fan of your work. The corporate logos look cool in your demo videos, and could be a great example for customers, but they are a deal-breaker for actual use in a project whose space-travelers don't speak English, or work for the U.N.C.

If you already updated past kits to have clean textures (I haven't downloaded them in quite some time, since I can't really use them with text) then please let me know....and I apologize for the false request. If not, please consider this an official, very strong request for alternative texture sets (for all Creepy Cat Sci-Fi Kits) that are free from text, logos, and symbols.

You are a talented 3d artist. I hope to be able to use your kits in the (near) future!

You want to call it "EDUB LTC" You can :) All letters are modular... You don't like the name? Change it! :)

Note: There is NO text on textures on the volume 4.

As you can see all letters are into a separated atlas :

All the text you see are modular example:

You want to call it CATILOVE LDT? You can :) Explore the kit!

That is good news that the logos are removable. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have a distinct memory of the UNC being part of textures in previous kits, but without any option to delete or change. Is my brain malfunctioning? (Wouldn't be the first time!)

So to clarify, anyplace I see U.N.C. or Luna Industries I can just delete it because the text is separate from the underlying textures (in all the kits)?

All the words are made with textured quads letters! Compose your own words/phrases/etc...
Yes you can delete them (logos/text) ! It's some prefab into another prefabs...

This makes sense...text is on a separate game object, like a decal. Great! I don't own Vol. 4 yet, but you can pencil me in for a sale.

My concern may be because I recall several non-removable texts and logos in some of the other Creepy Cat products I have, particularly on the computer screens and sprite sheet textures, which I could otherwise use except for the text (i.e. aliens don't speak English). Those screens and animated sheets are so useful and well made! But the UNC and other text was definitely not removable in those cases. It drove me nuts! I wish I had the skill to go in and remove the text from those sprite sheets.

So, I suppose I have a new request for Creepy Cat...a set of retro-style computer screen sprite sheets that capture the classic sci-fi vibe (e.g. 1960s and 70s) with sine waves, blinking lights, bar graphs, etc. (but no recognizable text or logos). You have a few scattered in your various effects packs that are text-free, but only a few (most in the HUD pack have writing). But I would love a robust set of generic, retro screen animation sprite sheets. There are no good ones in the asset store.

If my memory is good all tv texts are on a PSD files, you can edit them and modify titles etc, use a program like gimp to make your own. And remember :

A kit can't be created/adapted for YOUR project, it must be generic... If you don't have the skills to modifiy the kit => Adapt your project to the kit, not the inverse :) When i create one, i try to plan many many type of projects, and i try to be the most generic as possible. But you can't be Generic AND Adaptative AT 100%.

I don't choose! only Unity... Put the package in wichlist, it's the best i can say :)
