RealToon (An AAA Toon/Anime Shader and Stylized)

    Hi Benswinbanks,

    As of now you can do Gloss Mask.

    As for metalness you can try to do that by enable reflection and gloss, adjust also the gloss softness and reflection roughtness.

    Maybe soon i'll try to add an option for that metalic look.

    I mean that if there are multiple lights (or shadows) with the same intensity and colour intersecting with one another, do they multiply each other (more lights results in a different colour) or can it be set that the colour is constant (surface is lit or not)?
    I don't want to have multiple different values of shadows (or lights) like in this example:

    Hi,

    Yeah, the capture was from your youtube video. But what I see from that picture the shader seems to work just the way want it to work. The plane underneath still does not have a uniform shadow but it probably just don't have the shader applied to it.
    I guess I'll buy the asset then.

    The plane is using the Unity Standard Shader.

    Hey,

    Just wanted to post here to show you what I have done with RealToon maybe it will help people get it if you are still unsure. The price is well worth it. Here is a Gundam modeled by me that I have used with RealToon. Below I have the before and after with my model.

    Hi everyone, RealToon V5.2.1 update is now released, it's a minor update for Outline, a re-added option Outline Extrude Method.
    This will help fix Cube/Box object broken outline.

    *This option is already available in previous RealToon V4 and named Outline Method.

    Hi, I use this shader on a proyect and the meshes who use this shader on the material doesnt display on iphone 5 and some android devices like Huawei P8. Any fix for this??

    I love your shader. Works great on PC. This is the "light version" of the current Real toon shader on an Android Tablet.

    The characters both are using the shader with just the Outline feature on.

    I've tried several different image formats (png, tga, jpg). Both character textures are 1024x1024. From different artists.

    It was a stupid setting in the Unity "Player Settings" for "Other Settings". I turned on "Auto Graphics API" and it magically worked.

    Your shader is a definite 5 star Asset.

    Like, wow. I spent all day Saturday tweaking settings. converting textures, trying all sorts of things, and it ends up being a single unrelated checkbox in the Player Settings. Ugh!

    Hi everyone, realtoon v5.3.1 update is now released.

    Fixed:
    See Through option is not working when outline is enabled.

    I'm wondering if there is a way to cull certain features of the shader for optimising the performance ?

    *You can actually disable features you don't want to use.

    In order to look through the walls. Something like if i want see only outline behind the wall.

    It will be good feature and it can be used throgh the script in game.

    You can somewhat do that by using the "See Through" but it will show all not just outline.

    *Animate it uisng unity animation.

    Does/will this support HDRP and LWRP at some point?

    This is looking great!

    I can't find a decent tutorial showing how to create artwork for it properly though (particularly lights/shadows/eyes). Would you be able to offer some basic models (with textures) to test with?

    LWRP or HDRP is in my list.
    These two new RP are still in preview, I'm still waiting for unity to finalize it or complete.

    You can try to search online for models, there are free models for you to try/test.

    This RealToon LWRP version will be included in the next update as beta, but you can use it.
    Only Default & Default - Fade Transparency are available at the moment.

    There are options that are temporarily removed.

    Hi everyone, RealToon V5.1.2 is now available
    It includes RealToon LWRP as package to import and one new Metalic option for reflection.

    *LWRP is only available on unity 2018 to latest with LWRP V4.0.0 to latest version.

    Hello, here is another question. Is it work with legacy vertex lit rendering path? Standart lit outline doesn't work, what about realtoon? :)

    Unfortunetly it doesn't work with legacy/old vertex lit rendering path.

    RealToon's outline works in standard RP/built-in RP, even the LWRP version.

    Hi. Your asset is great! but I have some problem.
    I tested on old mobile phone yesterday. First LG G5, It works fine.

    But it doesn't work on Samsung-Galaxy s3.
    Realtoon shader object is pink. OTL...
    It tested at Unity 2017.4.19f1 and 2018.3.4f1.
    Can you solve this problem?

    Hi bellepoque,

    It doesn't work on galaxy s3 it's because the gpu of that device only support OpenGL SE 2.0.
    you need atleast a device that support OpenGL SE 3.0.

    So I found this neat way to shade hair using a "direction map" using anisotropy. Does RealToon support anisotropic direction maps for hair highlights? -- If it doesn't, could you offer this option somehow?

    That's the source (the 3d models you can view there too -- check out Zelda's hair btw.) The location of the "shiny" on the hair should definitely be configurable for anime hair -- I was just hoping we could do this using RealToon. D:

    Hi awesomedata,

    You can actually do this by using Gloss Texture or with Mask Gloss, you can also do Follow Light direction.

    See the included example scene "Character Setup" and the hair material.
    But it's different.

    I also planned to make a tutorial how to do this anime style gloss hair.

    I just saw that video while researching and thought you might be interested (assuming RT couldn't already do this).


    Definitely do this. Hair and controlling where light/shadows pool on normals was one of the major reasons I hesitated to buy RealToon at first. I wasn't sure if it could do either.

    * There is, just adjust the Softness under Gloss Texture.

    * It follows light direction/position (X & Y), the slider, it will just adjust how much the gloss texture follow the light,
    1 means fully follow light.

    I do -- I meant all textures in a single material, including part of that texture describing the gloss.

    Preferably, I'm trying to use one material/texture to cover all my texturing/material needs for a character.

    Hi, I'm considering buying this asset, but my use will force me to change the shader to add some new functionality. Is the LWRP version made in shadergraph / will it open in shadergraph?

    Unfortunately RealToon [LWRP version] is not made in or can't open in shadergraph.
    It is hand or hard coded, ported from realtoon standard version to LWRP with additional options and changed functions.

    Hey there,
    First - We love the asset and the fantastic support we received.

    Our artists are having an issue with using the shader correctly.
    Specifically, when they set the "Outline Z Position in Camera" parameter on one machine, it doesn't look exactly the same on another machine with the same settings and camera angle.
    Furthermore, when they set this value, it looks different in the scene mode and play mode.

    Similar issue between editor (visible outline) and a build on an Android device (hardly visible).

    Any ideas on what we could be doing to rectify this?
