I saw that Disney+'s new show The Mandalorian used the unreal engine to render realtime backgrounds and lighting for the show. Does anyone know how this works? Also could we see people/studios using Unity to do something similar to this at all in the somewhat near future? This technology seems fascinating and a potential game changer for certain aspects of film making, like being about to get the just the right look while you're on the set instead of having to wait till everything is shot and in post.

    Hi @VekUnderScore,

    Check this:

With only a team of 4 (amazing) students, including only one (talented) Unity developer, they could build a similar system (including a very cool companion app) + do 200 shots in under 3 months!

I am Technical Product Manager for Film and TV at Unity, and currently building the 2020 plan. Cannot make precise promises yet, but we are evaluating where to invest in order to provide the best value to our users who will want to build similar setup.

If you have a concrete project in mind, you can DM me.

    Best,
    Mathieu
