Real 2d Tutorial

Hi everybody! I wonder if there's any real 2D game tutorial, I mean I know a lot of 2D games made with unity and they are really awesome, I'm trying to make an android 2d game but I can't find any good resource different from the Lerpz's one.

Is there a good tutorial, book or anything to make something in real 2d like paper moon, like zombie ville? If not, how could they do those games? Do I need to master unity to make some low hacks?

And second, I found just one tutorial, but as a school project we don't have budget (really ) so I prefer to do it manually (no Sprite Manager or something that costs more than 20 ) or if I could use free tools.

I too have been beginning to go into doing 2D base games. It feels like to me that their should be more of those.

 

Walker Boys tutorial goes a good deal into it, but it's almost at the end (when it's finished) though, currently it's at the end of it. I haven't seen too many unity 2d games though. A thread with written tutorials seems to be doing that now, and asking for donations, given his 2 first one looking very in depth. Should be good.
