Good question. Maybe it controls the rigidity of the joints?

Not to hijack your thread, but it reminded me of a question I wanted to ask about the Ragdoll Wizard. Would it be possible to update the Ragdoll Wizard in the next release so it allows for arbitrary skeletal structures? This came up for me when I was recently trying to make a ragdoll out of a Chinese Dragon character. I was trying to make the many legs of the character swing about as it flew through the air. It kinda worked, but there were left over joint nodes in the wizard that I didn't need or that acted against the secondary motion I was trying to create. Obviously I could've taken the time and rolled my own setup that would work, but it would be so nice to just have a wizard that you could apply to any skeleton and have it work.

For example, an FPS game where you blow up a water tower with a rocket launcher, it would be sweet to be able to have a ragdoll on the tower so that when you blow it up it collapses in a realistic manner as the supporting structure buckles and the tower comes tumbling down. Or any structure that you could rig up with a lattice of joints and see it topple over. Maybe I'm just being lazy though and should finally learn how to work with hinge joints in Unity.

Does anyone know the answer to my first post? If so , you've made it to the next question-though Im still looking for the answer to the first...

Whats all these tickable boxes then? I mean some are very self explanatory, others just seem to be boxes to tick for no reason...Is it a "Cocaism" or is each one there for a purpose? Some just seem irrelevant-my picture is not the best example but if you dont know what I mean I can provide a better example.

Edit i swapped pics to better Illustrate my question. I know what "is trigger" means, but the others seem irrelevant(?)

And does it only happen on prefabs?

The ones you show are the override check marks for instantiated prefabs. If set, then the value is controlled by the instance - i.e. it is different from the value stored in the prefab. If you want to revert to the value stored in the prefab, you can simply untick the checkbox. Alternatively you can add a check mark if you want to prevent the value from being modified when the prefab is modified.

This is also the reason why they only show up on game objects associated with prefabs.

    Thank you
(Its not super important I'm just curious all the same)

re: Strength param on Ragdoll wizard

I could be wrong but from looking at the Ragdoll source, it looks like it's a throwback to a different Ragdoll implementation and currently does nothing.

Haven't tested it though to verify.

So about 4-ish years later I happen to run across this in answer to your question, although I hope you've already figured it out. :)

Hey, I'm just here wondering 12 years later what strength does. Thought we'd give the wizard a whirl... but it looks like just setting it up ourselves is the route to go. Not sure why the ragdoll wizard still exists honestly.... :p

A thing about the strength parameter. Unity please never remove it. This isn't only a milestone showing how ancient we shall eventually all become, it's a token expressing how brave and dedicated we are in understanding the wizardry behind ragdolls.

From rags to riches, and dust to dolls, keep strong!

I hope, and believe, that there will be a new ragdoll wizard for ECS physics. If not, I am sure we as a community can create an open source one.

I made my own ragdoll wizard for 2D for a prototype I'm working on. Took me less time and effort than I have spent wondering about that strength parameter.

Unity gives us strength and you guys can't just embrace it? What is wrong with you? Anyway, setting mine to like, 999999999 so I have enough to make it through these challenging times.

It's been in use that long huh? I feel like I should open Valve Hammer Editor for Counter-Strike Source to give it some company.

We gather here for Strength in Unity.
Yet we do not find the answer we seek, but the answer we need.
On this journey we have found this thread, and each other.

Did anyone revise the Ragdoll Wizard to something a little more user friendly and configurable?

BUMP. What this parameter is for???
Why its not explained in the docs?
Also it seems to change nothing in joints nor rigidbody settings.

I would like to clarify the situation once again.

    The strength parameter does NOTHING

Also. Since I last answered this question I have become a proud father; my kid is all grown up, soon they will be able to read this thread.

Okay, I will add more information than anyone to this thread by saying that Left Foot and Right Foot parameters also do nothing. So there is 3 completely useless fields and almost two decades later Unity did nothing to fix the situation. Best support ever.

This thread is possibly the greatest example of Unity support and documentation one could hope to find, and a great source of entertainment. I can't wait until nothing in the ragdoll wizard does anything anymore and people are still ending up here!
