So im actually cloning this game ... http://www.neopets.com/games/game.phtml?game_id=149
for purpose of learning. This is my first time attempting making the pathfinding AI.
So I have did some digging around and learn there are such 2D pathfinding examples such as A*.
Tho i think that is based more for grid games , and this game is not exactly Grid-like. Any clues on what kind of AI they are using? Or maybe a suggestion on what AI should i use for this game.

That's a pretty advanced project for a beginner. But hey, learning is good. :)

I've never played this game, but I don't see too much need for A* there. More likely the critters are doing a drive-reduction algorithm, possibly without much path-finding at all (just simple collision avoidance). You might check out the NEEDSIM package in the asset store.

When you say its not "grid like" what do you mean? Presumably there is still a 'grid' of sorts, even if its just the boundaries of the level? Then all you need to do is assign the obstacles to avoid and any weighting to particular terrains and it should work, but then you know better than me what you're going for :)

I found this series really useful to help with my understanding of how it works: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFt_AvWsXl0cq5Umv3pMC9SPnKjfp9eGW It's for 3D but it's a good detailed overview of pathfinding in a theoretical and practical application. I'm hoping to try and convert it to 2D as a learning exercise.

I almost bought that for the main image alone. There's something very appealing about that low-poly fox, but it might just be my fondness of foxes! Looks like an interesting asset though, so cheers.

Hey all, thanks for the reply! I'm currently a few weeks into my development of the game. Feels like i could have improved alot in certain areas , but for now im just excited to just finish my "first" game off. Will post about my success when im done.
Didnt use pathfinding but i opt for just using pathpoints similar to patrol movements.
