Hi, I just started using Unit for my project since the old game engine I use to work on is way out dated and way to expensive to get a full features of it.

I want to know if unity is capable of importing a level or scene exported from 3DS MAX as fbx. I read I can import a model from max but not sure if its possible with a whole level like 0.5sqr.km-1sqr.km large.

I'm kinda used to designing level in max and add the detail in the game editor after.

    Thanks!

Hmm might be tricky. It could exceed max vertex size, but if not it might freeze the import process if unity runs out of memory. I've tried large models before but very low detail, so I'm not sure how it would go.

Here's an idea though - try it out! Haha

It's more of a low poly geometries. Roughly a draft of the level with roads layed out instancing the same shaped. That way I can edit individual models to specific details without spending much time placing them and making adjustment for them to fit perfectly.

Does unity keep the instance made in max and don't build similar model as a separate asset or it just import fbx as a single mesh.

I'm still downloading unity as of the moment so I can't test it for my self.

EDIT: Reading through the documentation, I don't think I can Import a level. I have to export the the level as individual mesh construct them in the Unity editor one by one. Correct me if I'm wrong.

You can import a .fbx composed of multiple meshes.

Thanks, I got to play with Unity now and was able to import a test level with multiple mesh and can edit individual mesh inside unity editor. I still have a bit more reading to do before I can start a project.

    Cheers!
