    Since yesterday John is trying to get the new version to work correctly.

    There were some issues with the server connectivity while the provider was upgrading. Server login and client downloads are disabled for now. The new connection is up and running and the new update is being tested and released as soon as possible.

    More news to follow...

    Update on post : Just tested the new version and seems all works well now. Expect a update to be launched later today. Stay tuned!

    Cleaning up some litter left over from the last update we are ready to release the new client in public.

    Most important fix applied is the shader and fallback shader for bumped terrain which caused problems with intel graphics. This has been tested on a couple of setups and worked like a charm. If you experience any problems then we'd rather not hear about it... ;)

    Found a PvP area and possible new construction site.
    Because the new world is big I am very eager to continue exploring for such construction sites.






    John also started with the development of mining. Knowing John he will make something cool so can not wait to going try out my luck on all the different locations in the world. So far we have 64km² to explore in a apparently seamless world. :eek:

    We can expect to see a new update very soon. John is working on the moment on pick-ups and with that done he will update the version to 0.5.5.

    After the update he will start on the implementation of mining. All with all some neat new stuff coming up very soon.

    This seems to be one of those games were if it gets enough players, it'd be loads of fun, but without a player base it seems kind of to big for such a small amount of players.

    Regardless the game looks great.

    My guess is that their will be loads of participants as soon some functions are worked out. Around 200 people have made a account in the last 2 year from who most are awaiting mining and skills. Especially the skills are in the interest of most participants. The developer has himself a long record of being active in games like Project Entropia now days called Entropia Universe, Face of Mankind, Afterworld and many more. Lots of people from those games keep a eye on this project and will for sure going to play it when the time is right.

    Feel free to drop in when you have time to check it out.

    Hello everyone,

    Yesterday we found out trough a bug report that the avatar creation is bugged. It still works fine on creating a new avatar but it shows up without the body.
    Even so the avatar creation is something that is in the game since the early beginning and John is awaiting the procedural character generation from Fernando Ribeiro to re-design the avatar creation process. While we await the tool with great anticipation, John still will look into the avatar creation if he will be able to fix it without having to much work on it.

    Do not get scared away by the simplistic looks because we will all be able to recreate our appearance in a later stadium from the project.

    With some luck we will see a new update, along with the found bugs fixed and some other neat new stuff to explore later this week.

    Entropia FTW :). Long time PE/EU player here and glad to see something like this being developed! I wish you the best of luck and hope this gets a huge player base! That's one of the reasons I fell away from EU is the servers were always empty and finding people to play with was rare not to mention the fact that is was mostly all soloing. So aim for teamwork please! :)

    Hello Unity community and Project Ion testers,

    Everyone is eagerly awaiting the new update that contains the new pick-up system and underground mining. Yesterday John told me that he is working around the clock on the project and with some luck we could expect update 0.5.5 coming in next weekend or after the weekend. Schlumpfsack has also donated some very cool models again so enough reason to take a look when the new version update is launched.

    Also working on a video but will await the 0.5.5 version to capture all that is new before finishing and releasing it.

    Feel free to create a account to try the project. Everyone is welcome and your feedback on the project is highly appreciated.

    Hey Tesla Coil,

    If you are interested, I could generate some area of terrain (like 20x20 km or so) for you with the terrain generator I am using for OMPH project. It might be a good basis for fairly natural looking terrain to speed up the game creation process.

    Thanks for your offer, but John created his own terrain generator and managed to successfully generate a 64 km² area. For one server it is already a pretty big area. Even so i trying to find more information on the OMPH project. It Sounds interesting.

    Guess within the next year John moves to Unity Pro and think the terrain will get a new make-over again then. Still the current terrain is not looking bad if you ask me compared to a lot of other MMO's currently available.

    Hello everyone,

    Can not help it getting this excited on the moment. It is weekend and John and TestBuilt worked hard to get all in place for the new version update. As usual they will even be able to surprise me with some new content, can not wait to find out what it is this time!

    Placed yesterday a video on youtube from a hunt inside Project Ion.



    You can find the video also in the opening post from this topic.
    After this update is done I will make a video from underground mining, crafting, pick-ups and PVP and maybe more.

    My guess is that the update will be launched tomorrow. (Saturday 29-6-2013) Just a guess as the developers tend to keep all options open at all time and especially will not give me a official release day. ;) Silent hoping it will be later today... Fingers crossed!

    Stay tuned and hope everone likes the new video. The facebook page is also well on it's way with a complete time-line on the past and current development and lots of other information on the game.

    The Official release notes are yet to be published but version update 0.5.5 is a fact!

    We now have the basic 5 professions to try out, hunting, underground mining, crafting, exploring and trading.

    The mining will speak for itself, on the other hand exploring is something you really not need anything for except a keen eye-sight for natural recourses like marijuana plants that you can pick up by walking over them. Also exclusive items like weapons or other yet to be discovered items can be found like this. People also reported seeing the construction of a possible oil rig is on it's way.
    Both the mining and pick-ups will be linked to the Hall of Fame list just like hunting and recycling is.

    More professions will arise with the upcoming updates. I can even image the profession as surgeon with the upcoming U.M.A tool update. Altering body features on other avatars after you have created the avatar would give room for this.

    Will try to upload a bunch of video's and screens this week regarding the new update. Of course you are also all free to try it out yourself by downloading the game and creating a account and avatar.

    Expect also the opening post to be renewed later this week with the new video's and some new screens.

    It was rather late last night when we released the new VU and public client. In dire need of some sleep we decided to delay the official release notes, until now that is. We know that a lot of people were eager to test underground mining so we expect you will enjoy version 0.5.5 and the sound of the underground.

    - fixed: Assembly workbench interaction component reapplied.
    - fixed: NPC positioning of icon-rectangles containing the recipes.
    - fixed: PvP enabled/disabled for players entering/leaving the area.

    The opening topic has had a re-make again. Hope everyone likes the new information and screens.

    To bring out a special thanks to some people who support this project with neat models I added them in the opening post.
    Project Ion received some kind contributions on models from two people so far.

    In addition to the upcoming update Kalamona contributed a neat alien creatures pack.
    Be sure to check out this and other work from him at the asset store or inside Project Ion in upcoming update!

    As soon I see a chance to get a sneak preview of Kalamona his work inside Project Ion it will be posted here!

    Schlumpfsack is giving the game a finishing touch already for some time now with his neat models! Be sure to check out all his work at the asset-store or see the models donated inside Project Ion!

    It is already 4 weeks ago since the last version update on Project Ion.
    So far a lot has improved and added in the test environment and pre-tested.
    Still the developers trying to get more added before releasing the new version.

    Stuff that is new are the donated creatures from Kalamona. Here a sneak preview from his work, the models and animations.



    Be sure to check out his page on the asset-store when you need some great package as this one.

    The developers also made a bugnotes account so we can all very efficient keep track of reported bugs and the status they are in at any time.

    The developers have also been interviewed by Entropia Planets forum.
    Entropia Universe had in the old days a very similar feeling and game-play as this project gives to people on the moment.
    To read more about this interview you can visit the Entropia Planets forum and check it out yourself.

    For the rest a lot of code has been improved, a lot of new resources as well items added.
    For the official release notes that will contain for sure more news we will have to await the update itself.
    My guess is that we can expect it somewhere in the next 2 weeks.

    Did give the opening post a new remake in preparation for the upcoming update.
    The developers are planning to update Project Ion this weekend to version 0.5.6.

    Eddie shared some information already in the last month on IRC and the forum.
    He announced the implementation of a currency called the Project Ion Dinar.

    They also received Kalamona his neat alien creatures pack ready to use in the new update.
    All 3 aliens are added and trust me they not came to shake hands and talk about the universe.
    In the post above you see a sneak preview from this alien creature pack.

    Besides this the developers have done a lot of other work and told me even i will be surprised.
    As soon they post the official release notes later this week i will post them in this forum.

    Also interesting to see Fernando Ribeiro his newest tool U.M.A is soon released by Unity, Eddie worked a lot already with the Beta version and for now all seems very positive for using it inside Project Ion.
    John said his first target after this update will be implementing U.M.A into Project Ion.

    We figured the call for beta testers by Fernando was an excellent occasion to have our first event with in-game prizes.
    As an extra challenge we will grant a reward to anyone who creates a nice set of clothes and/or armor for Project Ion. :D

    The rewards:
    - A full durability set of the armor/clothes accepted for use in Project Ion.
    - Eternal recognition and respect with your name attributed in the item description.
    - A 1000 Dinar credit bonus or Adjusted Prototype Package of the same value.

    The rules:
    These are actually just specifications for individual armor parts to ensure that your designs will fit our planned armor setup.
    - Helmet
    - Harness
    - Arm Guards (set)
    - Gloves (set)
    - Upper Legs (set)
    - Lower Legs (set including feet)

    This was a spontaneous idea so any questions or other feedback will be highly appreciated. :)

    Some of you might have already caught this story through other channels...
    Here's the official story to counter any false rumors that might be floating about... ;)

    State of the Ion
    The deadline for the 0.5.6. release has been pushed forward by a couple of days in order to finish it properly. Most of the new content and features are ready to go but there's still some work needed on recipes, balancing and testing. Unless we encounter some big issues we should have things ready within the next week.

    UMA Beta
    The Unity Multipurpose Avatar tool has been maturing steadily and is close to a stable release. Fernando and Joen are still working diligently on features that require some specialist feedback that we could only wish to be providing. Thinking of other ways to help assist in UMA's further development inspired us to present our first official event.

    The Ion UMA event
    Design a nice set of armor (or clothes) for use in Project Ion and win big prizes. This might be a big challenge for a first official event but there will be more challenges concerning different areas of expertise. We plan to work on implementing UMA in our next development cycle so it makes sense to get them the attention they deserve. Check out this thread for background info.

    Final Note
    This delay may be a bit disappointing, but rest assured that we are not taking this lightly. We've even been stepping up a notch to try and meet the circulated e.t.a. which itself should actually be nothing more than that, an estimation of when things are done. The couple of days we need should still fit that rough estimate, and (finally) here are some pictures to prove it... ;)

    Used the credits to make the forum add-free and free of copyright links.

    Hi all, i've been playing a bit and so far its looking good and stable. For the moment i have stopped playing due to frustration of running out of ammo constantly xD

    Do you have a soundtrack developed for the game? I could help you out with some FL studio tunes which i put together pretty quick. Already made a few entropia style tunes. Could send you the samples if interested.

    Hello Everyone, and welcome to the official release of VU 0.5.7...

    "Wait, what?... What happened to VU 0.5.6?"

    Well... To keep a long story as short as possible, we released the 0.5.6. version silently as a sneak preview to a select group of our most fanatic supporters. Our reasoning behind this was that we still had a lot of things to test, which could have taken us another week or so to get it ready for an initial launch. With all the people on IRC eager to test the new version we decided to test the essential mechanics ourselves, and call in the troops to test the rest.

    Despite some hesitation on our part this turned out to be an excellent choice. Especially thanks to all of you who filed bug reports and provided feedback, we were able to track and fix most of the big issues present in 0.5.6.

    This approach also provided an opportunity to test our first patch release, which went so smoothly that we're thinking of ways to build it into the client. The only downside to all of this was that we had to increase the version number to 0.5.7. for
    consistency with our version checker. And that is the story about the VU with the shortest lifespan in the history of Project Ion...

    Before continuing with the dry release notes I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all the bughunters and feedbackers for helping us deliver so many improvements in just a few days. Your help is very much appreciated and we tried to prove it by slipping a fresh radar design into VU 0.5.7. ;)

    - fixed: The window state is now remembered correctly between sessions. (full screen/window mode)
    - fixed: Latitude and Longitude are now displayed correctly. (were switched around)
    - fixed: Receiving damage from a mob which is attacking another player.
    - fixed: The top-down reviver is now working as intended.
    - fixed: Textarea used to enter amounts only accepts numerical input again. (got bugged after engine upgrade)
    - fixed: Mob AI was changed to improve positioning and preventing mobs to go through the floor.
    - fixed: Prevented cursor toggle while dragging GUI elements to prevent the loss of windows.

    - changed: Distribution of items in loot and resources in mining claims. (ongoing balancing)
    - changed: Increase life expectancy for weapons and tools, improved efficiency balance.
    - changed: More efficient networkcode avoiding network instantiates. More improvements to follow.
    - changed: Friends list limit increased from 25 to 45. (per request)
    - changed: Improved the positioning of GUI windows on screen size change. Customized GUI Layout is not (yet!) persistent between sessions.

    - new: Three separate chat channels accessible from the chatwindow. (Global, Local and Team)
    - new: The 15 most recent messages sent can be recalled using the up and down arrows while chatting.
    - new: Three new alien species were discovered. (Big thanks to Kalamona for kindly donating these assets.
    - new: A message when "The End of the World is near". Now there's a feature! ;)
    - new: Project Ion Dinar was added as currency with the Ion Bank providing credit backed by gold and silver.
    - new: Mister QuickFix took over the basic items market selling basic weapons and tools at costprice.
    - new: The Pwnshop buys and sells items applying a small fee. Basic items can be sold here but won't be offered for sale.
    - new: Capture screenshots using F12. The capture will be confirmed by printing the save location in the global chat.
    - new: Unity engine updated to 4.0 to use (limited) hard shadows. A very nice gesture that we hope to see more of... ;)
    - new: Items, Icons and pickups. Scavenge around for freebies and gather a nice startup budget selling to the Pwnshop.
    - new: Radar was redesigned as thank you to our supporters and another step towards more eye-candy.

    This list could be a lot longer though we think some things might be more fun to figure out by yourselves. There are bound to be more bugs crawling about somewhere so we'll keep an eye out for your reports and release more patches in the next couple of days.

    Hello Everyone,

    So what's up? Well, multiple things, really...

    First of all, we are finally able to confirm that the server is running smoothly again. A lot of time was spent to investigate the lag spikes introduced after the engine upgrade to version 4.2.0. The biggest issue being there were no clues from the engine as to where the issue originated. Luckily Unity released the 4.2.1 patch when we were at the verge of rolling back to 4.1 and this patch turned out to show a big improvement. Some final work is being done on the server side which needs to be finished before we can continue working on the client release.

    Another big thing is the donation side of the project. Without any official publicity we are well on our way towards a Unity Pro License. A special thanks is in place for those who are helping us reach this goal. For clarity: Every donation is rewarded with game credits at a conversion rate of 100 Dinar for 1 Euro. This can be pure credits or specific (special) items of choice with a similar value. There will be a special reward granted to the one who makes the last donation needed for a Unity Pro license. The first part of which will be a x2 multiplier bonus on the conversion rate. The other part will be unique and secret until it's built... ;)

    Then last, but certainly not least, perhaps even the biggest surprise and reward for us here at the TestBuilt Laboratories...
    It would be a waste of words trying to describe the awesomeness of this promotional video by ahh the egg. (one of our regular suspects) So we'll suffice by leaving you all with a graceful bow and hope you will enjoy what is coming...

    Hey Tesla, it's Cayden. We met a few times in AW, but after you were mostly gone. If you don't remember me, I've been the highest leveled guy in the game for the last four years or so, the only one in the last five years who killed your best friends Cuey and SFF (and did it at the same time), and the only one to ever get good on the ZB11 (and I did it two years before anyone hit the 2100). I assume you remember me.

    I'd be interested in checking this out. Do you have a Linux build? I'm not computer-savvy enough to figure out how to install the Windows build. If not, let me know, I might consider switching back to Windows. I don't use my computer enough to care a whole lot, all I use it for it writing and torrenting. I actually haven't played video games since a couple years ago, when AW's death began approaching exponentially faster.

    Is Fifth aware you're building this? And, who else do you have from AfterWorld?

    (For those of you who are now inclined to go look up AfterWorld and check it out... Don't bother. It is dead.)

    I just watched the video posted above. Man, that looks EXACTLY like Project Entropia in Beta. That gave me so many flashbacks I got goosebumps. I haven't played that game since... Hell, since Desert Rangers was still rank 1. We dropped after that, when Skalmann and PornStar started cannibalizing. What was that, like, 2006? 2005?
    I don't know if you played PE prior to Gold, but this bears an uncanny resemblance. I hope the cost ratio is also similar, as opposed to how much it cost after 2005. Keep in mind that PE started with a real cost of 20 bucks that would last you for months, and it became a hundreds-of-millions dollar corporation. AW started with a real cost of thousands a year, and it tanked. So, hope you pick the formed, not the latter...

    Now I'm REALLY wanting to play this.

    To bad it did not work out well with Afterworld, a shame for the many very nice players who dedicated their time and money to it.

    I told Fifth about the game and hope he will join at some point in time. A lot of people are waiting for certain adds to the project before they will start play more or more regular for those already involved.

    Last week and today i visited the developers and they working very hard to complete another update with some very neat stuff.

    Hello Everyone,

    Before dumping the official 0.5.9. release notes, I'd like to thank all of our regular suspects for their patience while we were finishing this new VU. It took us a while to overcome the erratic fps behavior after the engine update, but things are running very smoothly now. From observations (after silent launch yesterday) the server actually consumes 50% less resources and almost no increase in CPU consumption with a bunch of players hunting (each other ;))

    Alright, and now on to the official introduction. The most noticeable additions in this update are the new PvP areas, one of which is shown on the map. Be careful in this area, even though it appears to contain a lot of valuable resources, you will lose all your raw materials upon death. The resources will be contained in a bag and can be picked up by anyone. The other PvP area is a small cage in Zion where players can conveniently challenge each other and practice their twitch skills risk free.

    We hope you enjoy the new update and report any bugs potentially still lurking under the hood somewhere. There are also some nice surprises left to find out for yourselves and perhaps you might even find some clues in the following release notes.

    - fixed: falling through the ground due to some holes in the terrain mesh and a bug in the input/position controller
    - fixed: fall damage while teleporting and stamina loss while running on steep hills (up and down)
    - fixed: water shader showed semi-transparent artifacts from distant trees
    - fixed: the huge radar object which could be seen while falling through the ground
    - fixed: readying and using tools/weapons by pressing the toolbar quick keys
    - fixed: awkward behavior of the item info window (right-click inventory interaction)
    - fixed: automatic unequiping when items are moved to storage etc.
    - fixed: multiple issues fixed in the Pwn Shop (clean up on isle 5)
    - fixed: adjusted healkit recipe missing 1 part
    - fixed: a couple of issues with trade and team requests
    - fixed: synching jump to remote players

    - optimized: storage and inventory processing needed on the server
    - optimized: character input controller almost completely rewritten
    - optimized: AI server processing needs are reduced to a minimum

    - changes: AI was changed to allow implementation of flying creatures
    - changes: arrow buttons were added to the list of selectable inputs
    - changes: some adjustment to mining now with three types of bombs

    - new: PvP area where players drop their raw materials as a pickup when they die.
    - new: in the new PvP area only team members or creatures will be visible on radar
    - new: replaced johns ancient spider model with a free mutant spider asset from kalamona
    - new: the first flying creature has been spotted, caution is advised considering the area
    - new: buildings based on schlumpfsack's scifi package modified using a custom editor tool
    - new: props from the unity asset store and some custom made using bits and parts
    - new: recipes for the new bombs used in underground mining
    - new: a medium PvP ring in Zion (as per player request)
    - new: button on login window to reset player preferences
    - new: server side storage and retrieval optimized for bulk data (preparing for skills ;))

    I finally got a chance to test this out. Great progress and functionality, but.. Why would you make an exact copy of EU? >.>. To be honest.. With as identical as this is to EU, i Would never play it. I would much rather play the real thing. You need some uniqueness to draw players in to something they haven't discovered before in the world of gaming >.<

    The developers are defently not aiming to replicate Entropia Universe.
    Like a lot of others they have played Entropia Universe in the time when it was still called Project Entropia.

    The first thing people say when they log in is that it indeed reminds them to the old Project Entropia and not to Entropia Universe.
    Most who are playing the game will all agree it is certainly no copy.

    To give some examples as what is different,
    *Reloading guns
    *Pick-ups with real value
    *100% loot cycle
    *Recycling items
    *No flying brooms next to flying spaceships (prefer only spaceships)
    *No TT but a pwnshop and a mister Quick-fix
    *No unlimited items (Pion has a fully resource based economy)

    The list will continue for a long time to come as every update will bring more differences.
    Needless to say, you will always use inspiration from great idea's that you had while playing a game like Project Entropia.

    Will be nice to meet you in the game if you keep tracking it, the more you will play it the more you will discover the difference for yourself.

    Hello Unity community,

    Project Ion is planning to implement UMA and has started an event for those who are familiar with the content creation tool from UMA.
    Everyone is allowed to participate, so feel free to learn more about this event.



    Besides armors and clothes people will also be free to create other accessories, by example shades.

    The rules:
    These are actually just specifications for individual armor parts to ensure that your designs will fit our planned armor setup.
    - Helmet
    - Harness
    - Arm Guards (set)
    - Gloves (set)
    - Upper Legs (set)
    - Lower Legs (set including feet)



    The rewards:
    - A full durability set of the armor/clothes accepted for use in Project Ion.
    - Eternal recognition and respect with your name attributed in the item description.
    - A 1000 Dinar credit bonus or Adjusted Prototype Package of the same value.


    This was a spontaneous idea so any questions or other feedback will be highly appreciated.
    When you like to communicate with the developers you can visit the IRC channel and talk with Jelle or JSL.

    When you like to try out the project to get a feel for it then you could visit this page.
    Also when you feel you could help in another way with this project than with the UMA event you always free to contact the developers.

    We're leaving 2013 behind us as a very productive year, and without any fancy charts we'll start with some actual numbers:

    Total Avatars: 1256 (Everyone actually logging, making an avatar and playing)
    Total Items: 31403 (Including recycled items and those for sale in the pwn shop)

    An explicit thank you is in order for all who helped raising enough funds to purchase a Unity Pro License, which happened much sooner than we anticipated. This is a huge milestone for the project so it's safe to say we are now officially ahead of schedule. We're also confident that the changes coming with Unity Pro will be documented nicely thanks to all of you who are spending time and energy on the promotion of Project ION through blogs, fora, videos and live-streaming. We've actually set a new record with 33 concurrent users on our 'old' hardware during a recent stress test. Very cool stuff!

    Needless to say, we are very happy with the way things are going. The selfless manner in which people are contributing to a virtual world like ion is truly inspiring. We sincerely hope to see this type of attitude increasingly affecting the real world in 2014 and beyond...

    Great looking game! I must try it out when i get home!
    i was also a big fan of old PE.
    Make it so when we get a good loot it will feel alittle like old PE, Lots of diffrent items, feels better to get items rather than only resources / money :p

    I love this project. Month after month you can see it raising up from the ground, just like building a brick wall.
    Some people say it's about the ride not the destination. In this case I think it's very true :)

    Also, Pig Benis... I lol'ed. It's very hard to read it correctly :)

    With great pleasure i present to you all Pion - Hunting and Mining - Project Ion - Part 2.
    The video's have been a great add to this project as they have pulled a wide range of gamers already.

    PigBenis his 3th look is a closer inspection again on the hunting, mining and other game dynamics like sounds and the different tools.



    Pig getting more and more familiar with the game-play but still has some questions.
    Guess we should take him on a trip and give a all out tour, around the spaceship, oil rig and the underground.

    It could become a awesome video to see us go in a big team or even multiple teams.

    In a few weeks from now it will be exactly 6 months ago that the developers had launched VU 0.5.9.
    The list of release notes will become huge.

    This is the latest video they released some weeks ago.


    Hope to see Neteller added in the near future, it covers a lot of payment methods like UKash and Pay-save.
