    Hey,
I have problems with unwanted shadows, when I zoom out everything looks normal, but as soon as I zoom in, my terrain gets dark, sometimes black. I checked all parameters for directional light, nothing strange to be found. I'll post 2 pics that show the difference and the problem:

these shadows also apear in play mode

    greetings

It looks to me like your front faces are being lit in the first image and your back faces are being lit in the second image.

Is that a unity terrain or a mesh you've imported?
If not a unity terrain, do you have multiple LOD for that mesh?

I had this issue, but I can't remember how I fixed it.

It might be that you have too many textures on the terrain. Try changing the rendering emulation mode.

Try adjusting Base Map Distance and see what happens.

I just created a terrain and made mountains of my own, if that is what you mean.
I don't know what you mean with LOD... I'm a rookie if it comes to unity and programming. still learning.
