Check the normals on the model and fix them if necessary.

The normalmap is a different thing to the actual normals on each mesh polygon. If a directional light is not casting light across a model as expected, this is almost sure to be incorrect normals as Eric says. Changing or removing the normalmaps will be no good as it is not fixing the surface normal.

If your tank is an FBX, try selecting it in the project view, going to the inspector panel and locating the Normals drop down. Change this to 'Calculate' instead of import and see if that has any effect. It's always better to set the normals correctly in your 3D package, but this is a work around if you don't know how to do that.
