I recently purchased a character from the unity assets store, downloaded it & imported it into unity3d. For some reason that i can't figure out, every time I attach a character controller to it, it doesn't attach right. When I tried to re-size the character controller I realized the x axis & y axis are switched in the component tab in the editor. If I click to move the character controller collider up along the y axis it moves along the z axis instead. If I try to move it along the z axis it moves along the y axis instead. This doesn't happen when I attach a character controller to any other models in the same scene or any other scene. This only happens when I try to attach it to the character i just purchased. Having those two axis switched throws everything out of wack. I can't use the model I purchased if I cant attach a character controller to it. Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem so I can use the character that I purchased?

It would help if you could provide more information like, what the asset itself is. Typically though, you would start by contacting the developer who created the Asset. I wish I could be more help, but without any details...
One thing you can check is that you have the character rig set to the right type. If the rig was setup to use Legacy by default you may try switching it over to Humanoid.

I emailed the unity asset store support twice about it & didn't get a reply. I also emailed the developer & someone did get back to me about it. He just said he'd take a look at it & asked me to send it to him. I did but i still haven't heard anything about it. It is a legacy rig but i have other characters in the same scene that are also legacy rigged & I don't have a problem hooking up a character controller to them.Still I just tried what you suggested anyways & it didn't make a difference.

Can you parent the character to an empty gameobject and assign the character controller in that gameobject ?

Then you could rotate the inner character any way you want to display right

I just tried that it worked to move the character around but the animations listed in the third person controller wouldn't play..I got this error message..

The character you would like to control doesn't have animations. Moving her might look weird.

so i then added an animation script to the empty game object that is the parent of the character & deleted the animation script on the character, that didn't work. That animations wouldn't play, the character got sling shotted off the terrain at the entry of game mode & the character started having seizures.

I haven't had any problems like this hooking up a character controller to any other characters.

Doesn't the assets store test stuff out to make sure it works right before putting it up for sale?

Yes they do test assets. It's likely that you are not using it the right way, if you would post a link to the asset like I have asked 3 times we might be able to give you some advice

Sorry I'm new to unity & I have been spending countless hours every day for the last month & 1/2 studying & learning from documentation, video tutorials & digging through the forums learning how to build a video game while I have been working on one. If it comes out good when I'm finished then I am going to buy the pro version of unity & publish it. In the mean time I'm trying to be careful about how much I publicly talk about what I'm working on. I'm working on something original that hasn't been done yet & I don't wanna put out to many dots for people to connect. Imagine if you were working on something original for months and then just before you are finished with it someone else releases something almost exactly the same as what you were working on. I don't have a problem with sharing some stuff I've been working on or figured out like some of the scripts but i just don't wanna reveal everything until I'm finished putting it all together. I try to to keep my questions on here to a minimum & I don't even ask a question on here until I've already spent hours digging through documentation & forum post troubleshooting it for myself.

No worries there, but when asking for help in the forums people will want specifics of what you are using. Best of luck
