Well I just installed Unity, I have already activated it and what-not but as soon as I tried to run it a error message showed up on my screen displaying the following text:

I was wondering how do I fix this, also where is the DirectX control panel and what do I do when I get there.

    Thanks in advance :)

This has nothing to do with the DX control panel but with the dx setup panel from the DX sdk you installed.

So if I delete/uninstall my SDK, Unity should be working, right?

It's just a switch but since I can't quite remember where to find the debug/runtime dialog window...

Inside your DXSDK your should find a Redist subdirectory with a DirectX runtime installer. That is meant for final game redistribution; if you install that you should be back to regular retail DirectX.

It's weird though, my dxdiag flags my dxd9.dll as the debug version, yet I don't get that error.

Just for anyone who googles this problem, I fixed it this way.

    Open up DirectX Control Panel

    Go to Direct3D 9 tab

Change Debug/Retail D3D9 runtime option to 'Use Retail Version of Direct3D 9'

    Click OK
