I agree that the previous pricing system for mobile users did not make sense, and I have repeatedly said over the years that mobile users should not be forced to purchase Unity three times. (base + iOS + Android) This new pricing makes things better for mobile developers, and that is great. But this new pricing is a major price hike for desktop only developers. Unity Pro perpetual license owners that developed only desktop games definitely received a major price hike during this transition.

Yes, I do receive free updates for 5.x right now, but that ends in March 2017 according to Unity. I agree that Unity has the right to change their pricing model, but I also reserve the right to complain about it when I disagree with choices they make. One thing Unity could do to retire this issue is simply release Unity 6 in March 2017, and I actually expect that will happen. If Unity changed the major version number and then released a final bug fix patch for the 5.x branch, then Unity could claim they fulfilled their obligation to provide free update to perpetual license owners throughout the 5.x branch.

I think I have a right to complain when they promise one thing and then renege.
