    According to the thing...

"Coming soon! Pro-only benefits including filtering options to view selected Pro threads, and more."

Does this mean I'll have a check box so I can look at the scripting forums and not see 1000 newbies who don't know how to diagnose a null reference exception? Because that would really be great, totally worth my $1500 right there.

That's the plan, yes. You'd still see posts from non-pro users in those threads, but you wouldn't see threads started by them.

That's one way to view it. Here's another. ;)

"Coming soon! Pro-only benefits including being able to ignore all those who are trying to learn Unity for the first time."

It may sound good but I feel like it will only segment the community and discourage people from using these forums.

You'll just be limited to rich newbies. :) The ones that genuinely expect that because they paid 1500 they should be able to build an MMO in three hours.

You could probably make your licence fee back really quickly by selling them scripts they could write themselves. After all, if they are going to pay for a license to software they can't use they probably pay for plenty of other things.

But you'll miss out on seeing me :(

In the distant past when I managed this forum I was strongly against segmenting the forum into Pro and Free users, and thankfully it never happened, but this is simply an option for Pro users to filter the forum. Those Pro users who choose to filter out certain threads were probably never going to help new users anyway so I don't think this will change anything with regards to this community helping each other.

As a Pro user, I would have to say that I am going to enjoy being able to filter.

Any chance that we would be able to filter more than the threads?

I understand the idea behind it, but what will a newcomer think if they see this being offered for Pro users?

If I'm a long time Pro user (currently 4.x) and I don't have plans to buy Unity 5 Pro, thus making me not a U5 Pro user, will my threads also be filtered out if U5 Pro users check the filter? Will Pro owners who aren't using U5 be considered newbies from now on?

I'm not making any more games but I will still be supporting my current one, which is why I'm still here in the forum, and I'd like to be able to ask questions without being filtered out as a newb.

You've got to understand noobs in terms of Unities monetisation strategy. The idea is not to make any one noob happy. But to have massive amounts of them constantly churning through the system.

This is what makes me most nervous. There is plenty of knowledge in the hobbyist and out to pasture parts of our community. But who knows, maybe it might work.

Unity is giving me a way to communicate with others who took the plunge like I have since Unity 2.6. Its important and long overdue to being able to establish that network and share things with just those individuals, teams and companies. I appreciate having that ability.

I also appreciate that they are doing it in a way that doesn't completely separate the Personal and Pro users.

The irony is that they'll also be missing out on plenty of experienced users whos pro licenses aren't linked to their accounts. I've been using Unity Pro at work for ~5 years, but my account is linked to the non-Pro license I use for my hobby work.

Well, the account with my work email address will give me access to the Pro filter if I really want it.

Oh, and just to clarify, this is what I was driving at:

So now we are filtering out experienced hobbyists, retired professionals, professionals working for a medium to large studio as well as financially literate noobs. It would be interesting just to have the stats on which threads would be left exposed with the filter on. The forums will be a quiet place if you use it all the time.

I wonder if the main drive for this feature was so Unity employees could easily filter out the forums based on who was paying and who wasn't. Perhaps the offering it to pro users was more of a 'since we had to build this thing anyway'. It would certainly be quicker for the staff members to prioritise supporting threads if they could see at a glance who pays.

It has the potential to change the experience for pro users. But perhaps not how it was intended.

The other way is that there are a lot of Pro users that avoid the forums cause of the newbie spam. I've seen pro section etc. being asked past years or people commented such thing in other places. I guess it has been asked directly too since it's being added.

We've been asking for an enforceable beginners section on answers too. Essentially the same concept in reverse. How do you stop experienced users questions getting snowed under by a thousand questions about how to access variables in another script. Thinking about it, I would use the feature in the scripting section. I get the most enjoyment out of solving problems that are difficult, and the standard flow of newbie spam often hides it.

What is the big deal? this is an optional feature merely to please the crowd that wants it. It's not a pro or a con, it is simply more preferences available outside of the unity engine for paying customers. I would imagine most won't bother using it.

Are you suggesting no one would view it as a pro or con? Keep in mind we're talking about a community that has several pages of discussion, not counting past threads, centered around the dark skin. :p

    User-definable filters would be neat.

Maybe you did not notice but they use the keyword engine features everywhere. Editor skin is a visual thing and does not affect your game. Services have nothing to do with any features which this thread is kinda about.

The community features have nothing to do with the IDE. They are separate benefits. Just like Cloud Build and Level 11.

The Editor is the IDE, thats the point. Editor/Engine features != Community features.

And who cares anyway? Pro version has perks, those perks are defined, if someone wants to use them then they can pay for them. If not, Personal version is the only other option. //fin

In this context it is. If you want to use a different engine of course you're free to, so have at it. That is not what this topic is about.

I'm not yet provoked or I would have used the forum ignore feature already .

Your latest posts are a live proof that the feature in the topic would be nice inside threads too even if the conversation would look messy ;).

Hopefully the features are more like a toggle that instantly do jquery style filtering on page and not and option in the setting that you need to go save every time.

Yes, that's exactly what I want. I spend plenty of time helping new users in Answers, what I'm missing is what I had in the Unity 5 Beta group which is now locked... discussion by people who actually know what they are doing.
