    hi,
I was talking to another developer recently who told unit was $75 month or $1500 for a one off payment.
I looked at the payments and can only see it for the $75, is the one off payment still avalible?

Isn't perpetual license going to be removed in a year or so?

And a defining "Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" from the sales team can be heard across all the land.

But seriously, James is right. It' is unlikely that you need pro (they are not feature different - just the licence is different).

This is true. Dark skin and splash are the only differences you'll notice in the software.

This isn't entirely true - Pro includes Level 11, which is impossible to get otherwise due to amazing planning by UT. The first few months of Level 11 were great. Occasional months since have included neat gifts and discounts. Your opinions may vary depending on how much you've stuffed your wish list with.

There are also services which will be Pro only (again until they get past the amazing planning of their web payment systems) as they leave beta.

Any use of the word amazing is a substitute for something harsher.

If I'm going to use it , it will be for commercial use in advertising, so I think I'll need it?

    Perhaps. From: http://unity3d.com/get-unity

    For Unity 5 Personal Edition
May not be licensed or used by a commercial entity with annual gross revenues (based on prior fiscal year) in excess of US$100,000, or by an educational, academic, non-profit or government entity with a total annual budget for the entire entity (based on prior fiscal year) in excess of US$100,000. See the Software License Agreement.

As long as you fit then no.

    Nope.

If you earn 100k with Unity, then you have to buy it.

Dont buy it until you have earnt at least the cost of a pro licence, otherwise youre just throwing money away.

To be clear, buying a perpetual license right now is probably not a good idea. If you're interested in always being up to date with the latest version of Unity, then buying the perpetual licenses now ($1500) is more expensive than getting a 13 month subscription ($75x13 = $975) to take you to March 2017 when Unity 6 is expected to be released. At that point you'll either want to continue with your subscription at $75/mo, or switch to a perpetual license of Unity 6 for $1500.

[Edit: unless, perhaps, they offer a discount for upgrading to Unity 6 perpetual license?]

Essentially, if Unity is accurate enough to hit their 2-year major version release cycle, The Perpetual License doesn't provide the same amount of value as the subscription plan 4 months after the release of the new major version. Since 20 months at $75 a month is $1500.

Hmmm, now that you mention that, I just remembered Unity has offered a discount when upgrading perpetual licenses. If they do that again for Unity 6, it might still be worth if for the perpetual license.

If I recall correctly the discount price for upgrading to Unity 5 was $600. The normal upgrade price is $750.

If income<100k then there is never a good reason to purchase pro if you're not forced to. You should just relax, make your game, buy a few assets, enjoy the process. Purchasing unity is when you get a little more serious.

Until you have demonstrated your advertising to the buyer use Unity Free. You'll likely need to spend $4500 to buy Unity Pro for your client which you tell them upfront is an expense exclusive of the work and one that will recur every 2 or 3 years at a lower rate for major upgrades.

Does your client have the proper GooglePlay, Apple App Store, Mac Store, and Windows Store accounts set up and a way for you to hand off the completed work to them for publishing under their business name?
