After installing beta 12 I noticed new package versions with new naming conventions in the PackageManager:

What does "pre" mean? How does it relate to "preview".
I noticed that PackageManager doesn't recognize it as preview.
    Is this intentional?

    Y-Ye-Yes

Joke aside: they have packages that have the word preview in them, so perhaps the pre stands for some else?

In semantic versioning, which afaik Unity uses, it's in the pre-release spot (https://semver.org). So it probably does not relate to preview directly. Unity has used alpha, beta, perhaps they use "pre" as a generic pre-release name after alpha and beta…? (Or perhaps they use it to mean an rc/release candidate)
