Bad performance in VR, especially for standalone (Android) VR, is an ongoing issue. Later unity versions seem to have worse performance.

The bug reports made get bad responses. A recent issue got closed as by design, since 2022.2 introduced soft shadow quality tiers, which upgraded the soft shadows, which decreases performance. While this is true, that completely ignores the performance difference between 2022 and 2023 versions at all. I get no response on the issue tracker or jira, which is very frustrating. Now I have to make a new bug report, with the same explanation, except just for 2 unity versions instead of 4.

It would be great if there would be more testing and if the team would look more into issues that have a community behind them (these issues have 100+ votes). This just feels lazy and annoying.

Issue (see my responses as well): https://issuetracker.unity3d.com/is...est-2-builds-across-2020-dot-3-and-2023-dot-x

Hi DevDunk, thank you for bringing up the performance regression caused by the soft shadows. I want to confirm that our team is currently investigating and testing potential solutions to the this regression and we anticipate having an update soon. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to improve our product and address these concerns.

The main issue is not soft shadows. The bug report is about performance difference for multiple versions.

    2021 had 90fps
2022 (with medium soft shadows) had 67 or something
2023 had 56 (and there has been no into given on this change before the issue is closed as by design).

If the issue is still being looked into they should not have closed it and simply posted an update
