?

Should Unity 5 Pro License enable the - now contained - "Team License" for Unity 4 too ?

  1. Yes: would create a better incentive to buy Unity 5 Pro for teams currently sticking with Unity 4

  2. No: Please post why you think that option would be preferable

Just updated my Unity 5 Pro license and checked the enabled Cache Server with the Unity Pro 5 release and indeed it is enabled now. Doing the same with my Unity 4 Pro license on the same machine, Cache server there is still disabled....
Should'nt that new license feature work with Unity 4 Pro on the same machine too ?

No, it seems that the license changes limited to 5.0, as an incentive to upgrade.

Which is understandable. Although a little annoying if you're in the middle of a 4.x project and not in a position to move it to 5.0 any time soon.

What i meant is that it should only be enabled in V4 when you already purchased the V5 Pro License of course
This would even mean a bigger incentive for current V4 Pro owners to upgrade, because they gain cache server for their V4 license too than. Even if they do not plan to update the projects to V5 at the moment

I would agree, a roll-down would be an acceptable change for those who owned 4.x pro and purchased a 5.x upgrade... I still have 4.x projects and the team feature would be a nice benefit to have now that it's included in 5.x

Find it kind of strange that this matter does'nt attract more interest

Could anyone from Unity chime in and clarify wether they see enabling Teamlicense for Unity 4 Pro too if the person owns the V5 pro license as a possibility? Heck i even would be happy if Unity would do this only for people who owned a V4 Pro license previously...

I think most people/teams without team license already have a solution up and running for their projects and there is no interest to use extra time before moving in to U5. From Unity perspective if their license system back-end differs a lot between 4 and 5 they probably don't want to use any time to do changes there.

edit: you should have had "I don't care" option in the poll :)

Hehe - you are possibly right with the third option

Maybe you are right with the "teams already have solutions" too
BUT: there is one big use case where this would be a great benefit for multiplattform solo guys like me
In my last project i have to wait about 20-40 minutes to convert from iOS to Android or desktop etc.. And thats just because that idiotic single threaded, command shell based texture compression tool which only runs on one core with one instance on my 12 core machine....
I had hoped the the Cache server would now give me that Cache server speedup in Unity 4 too...

I got a better idea. Why not just enable the v4 cache server for all licensed users of Unity 4.x PRO ?
