Poll: FPS Games with or without weapons visible

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Angry-Hobbit, Dec 23, 2016.

?

How important is it to see weapons / Hands on screen for a FPS game.

  1. Absolute, this is 2016-17 ... Weapons Visible are a must!

  2. Weapons Not Visible is prefered, a simple cross hair will do fine.

Only way lol. I like that they added that option in DOOM 2016.

You are probably correct. But I think with enough Logic and reason he will come around. He is a good guy and knows what he is doing. He is caught up in this throw back idea and thinks TONs of old school gamers will love it. ... I hope so ...

I think the target audience is the younger crowd who are used to seeing a weapon. Thus they would not be interested in a First Person perspective game where the weapons are NOT displayed. This why I set up a poll. To show him what people really think/want.

Its a solid idea right now. I am just worried people wont give it the time of day if they don't like the combat system. The focus will be on adventure, exploration and story, but combat is most often what drives games.

Well, maybe you could sell him the idea by showing that displaying weapons could be part of the HUD/GUI to display information.

BTW, do you have any links to your art? I wanted to take a look at your stuff.

Most people won't give any game the time of day unless it seems either better or as good but still novel compared to games they know. For retro-genres you're also running up against the nostalgia bonus that old games have.

You realise the 'younger crowd' are mostly interested in the latest AAA FPS game. If you can't match up to the quality of the latest Halo, COD, or equivalent you are unlikely to get any interest.

In fact the only real way to make a successful FPS these days without an AAA team and budget is to target the retro audience.

even than you still have to compete with companies that can pull off the retro inspired gameplay with current gen AAA polish like the Doom reboot.
