For some reason, people cannot post replies to job threads.

This should be changed to allow everyone to post - to facilitate asking questions and posting recommendations.

I'm pretty sure that the pre-Unity Connect version of the jobs board allowed user replies.

Without user replies, the forum seems lifeless, and does not promote a sense of community.

Please allow user replies to threads in the job board.

It's because these forums are not meant to be a place for discussions. As per the Guidelines:

Why is that? So some threads don't go under because they don't get replies?

I saw a couple of threads were I wanted to ask a question, one that might be interesting to others as well. Or sometimes people might have a tip on how to improve the OP.
Would be great if Unity at least tried it out. But seeing how long they held on to the not so great Unity connect, I have little hopes.

I agree - asking questions, providing testimonials - these were allowed on the old boards right?

Why this reversion, is it just to reduce moderation overhead?

Yes, I also have tried to reply but was restricted to post a
reply on the job threads. We should be allowed to post a
    reply in job section.

My guess is because that can easily be exploited to bump threads, in violation of the 72 hour thread bump rule.

    1 Create thread
    2 Create new accounts
3 Bump thread with question from extra account after 4 hours
4 Bump thread again with response to question after another 4 hours
    5 Go to step 3

Allowing replies would just enable haters, fools, competitors, etc.. I think it's good as-is. Also, despite being hosted within the forum, I think jobs threads are intended to be more like classifieds than discussions.
