I imagine the timing is similar to the PSM program where they've been stuck on 4.3 and the next stop is 5.0 (plus integrated into the normal Unity instead of a separate Unity install). It's not a "day 1" thing, but at least in the case of PSM, they've stated that they'll start working on PSM as a 5.0 platform shortly after the official 5.0 release. So I'm picturing some folks hard at work as we speak.

I'm certainly looking forward to leaving 4.x in the dust.

We are licensed PS developers and we instantly downloaded Unity 5 and the respective PS Vita AddOns and could build our project without problems to our DevKits/TestKits.

Of course you need to be a licensed dev to get a DevKit/TestKit and the option directly to build to PS Vita, not PSM, that's a difference!

Sweet, I didn't know that. Though I think PSM is cool too, so I hope those folks don't have to wait too long.

PSM is ideal for people who don't have the means to afford dev kits. I would recommend it for people starting out.

I just watched the live stream, and I'm confused as well. Does this mean the API is available to us before we are approved developers, and we can show a finalized project to Sony? This is our current issue in that we don't have the API, so we can make a mock demonstration of what we want at best.

No the API is not available and it just meant that now there are no separate versions for consoles but all in one. You still need the licenses to activate and build. For a demo desktop publish or any other playable thing is enough no matter what the controls are. As long as they get the idea and see potential in it even annotated video material might do it to get it started.

I am now an official PS4 developer. I have a question to anyone that have some experience on this:
What is the best way to go about multiplayer, Photon for example? or is there a better one?
    Thank you for your feedback.

I am personally waiting for Unet. Photon does have PS4s to test last I checked, but to do networking with Sony's system, you have to raise a ticket there or speak to them as there's a specific set of hoops to jump through.

Excuse me, the console runtime players are included? I mean in the past, android-ios runtime were included but not activated. When you activated license, they got themselves activated. Last time I checked there were no runtimes. Obviously it does not matter, just a curious thought anyway.

No they are not included by default but now they are just separate modules to the main Unity and no more own Unity versions for each one. See Edit | Modules menu to get the idea.

We have a company and can handle static IP easily, here in Bangladesh. We have a pretty nice amount of proven track record, can go easily with complete failure of our current game(6 months of cost). We are developing a fast paced action game. So far, these are my results from big three:

While checking at nintendo, I learned that development is impossible on their platforms due to geographical reason. Out of these, the good thing was: "nintendo was quick to replay us back."
Then I sent some inqueries to sony and microsoft, to check if this same situation exists for them. Considering, there was no XBL or PSN support here in BD.
However, Microsoft was very responsive. Within two days they contacted me back with an apology for delay and good news. I can develop for xbox from BD. So far everything from us looked good to them. This quick response with good news, makes much stronger trust between us and microsoft, about future developer support.

Story about sony was completely unexpected so far :(. A month is over, still no replay about inqueries. This makes sony looks lethargic to me. Let alone official partnership with them, I am scared about future support. For example: lets say you want to hook a native plugin with unity-PS4. Some bad issues appears due to sony system. Now you wait months to get some advise about this?!?! I don't know how good you recieve developer support from sony, I hope my fear is not true.

I am still wating for them, to recieve something sensible. Meanwhile, do any of you live in a location where PSN is unavailable but you are developing for playstation? :)

Good luck getting static IP in Poland! Anyway, anyone has an idea why this stupid req has been made? Wouldn't standard name/key pair be enough? Or if they're really worried about security (although I can't imagine Sony is really worried about that, otherwise LulzSec wouldn't happen), SSH key?

You can get a static-IP with VPN. SONY doesn't like that, but if you explain them that you're a small team, working from home with a simple internet-connection and a simple provider who doesn't provide static-IPs their fine with that. The VPN costs us 7€ a month, which is absolutely affordable.
