    Hi there!

This is my hobby project I'm working on occasionally: spherical planetary terrain editor.

You can download and try it yourself here. Any feedback is welcome!

There are quite enough features for heightmap and color painting already, and I have plans to add more functionality if/when I have time (such as possibility to place objects, like trees, stones, etc.)

    Hi there,
Very nice. I am interested in seeing a build for the unity editor.
Also will it have an option to make caves etc?

Caves are not possible, unfortunately, since planet is represented with a heightmap.

And I didn't mean a build for the Unity editor or an Unity asset or anything, don't have plans for that yet, just an executable build to run and play with the planet.

I've managed to replicate that terraced look of Godus terrain, and it's now available in the new v0.3 build!

Added export of planets to a map projection and to voxel format.

It's not possible to make it Unity's builtin Terrain, it doesn't support spherical terrains, if that's what you mean. I made my own terrain engine for that.

Hi, thank you for your answer :) Is that possible to export (height map or vox) first from your program, and then import it to unity as Terrain (not gameobject) ? -P

    Cheers, Carvin

Not sure about that. Planet Painter can export map projections as a heightmap, and if you can find a way to apply it to Unity's terrain, it could work, although the shape of the terrain will be distorted (since it's a projection of a sphere).

I've released version 0.5, now it is possible to export planets as 3D models in FBX format, which then can be imported into Unity.

This is just a warning AFTER it exports your file to let you know that if you export again, it will overwrite the current one.
Look in AppData\Roaming\Planet Painter\Export\ and you'll see your FBX.

I wish it exported the water mesh too though.
