Plane Color Very Dark

I created a simple 2D scene.
I added a plane and a directional light.
I set the plane's color to be light blue but it displays as a VERY dark blue.
If I set the plane's color to be bright red, it displays as a VERY dark red.

Can someone clue me in to what I'm doing wrong?

Post a picture of your inspector showing how you setup the plane and directional light. I'm willing to bet it's something to do with the direction the light is facing and/or the rotation of the plane.

I got it to work by setting: Render Mode = "Not Important".

Is that what I should be doing for a 2D game or something else?
