Photo orientation incorrect on Android

I have been stuck for some time now with taking photos on an Android device and getting incorrect orientation information back when loading into texture to display on screen.

When I load the photo in my app the width and height are always wrong yet when I view the photo in the Gallery viewer or through a file viewer the photo is correct.

I cannot find out how I can get the orientation of the photo so that I can rotate it correctly to display the right way in my app.

Have been searching the web and am a loss, does anyone know how to rectify this?
