    I’m completely new to unity and when I try to run my game it gives me like 20 frames a second which is bad. The game is not complicated and when I look at the performance window, the other section takes a chunk of my cpu usage. What’s happening and what can I do?

    I run linux on an older machine but I can run other unity games perfectly in 1080p but this 100 by 100 square and a bean is too much?

    Details! We need details before we can do anything even approaching a helpful answer.

    But also, this should go in the relevant section. General Discussion is specifically not a support area.

    Need more information:

    * Computer specs
    * More details on the game (number of objects, perhaps some screenshots etc)
    * Performance in a build
    * Screenshot from the profiler
    * etc

    Other in the profiles is mostly going to be the editor itself if I’m not mistaken. My build can barely hold 30fps with just a default cube. For me, the editor is at least 60% of any profile, but that overhead is not there when running outside of the editor.

    And as an addendum to this, you should be able to look at the "stats" overlay when Play mode is on to see (an estimate of) the game's non-Editor performance.

    Also, "in editor" performance will always be significantly worse than build performance. This is because when running in the editor you are running most of your game and the editor in the same thread, as well as rendering the Game View, Scene View, and updates to all the Editor panels. Your game's code when run in the editor is also not build optimized, for debugging purposes. So unless you have an extremely powerful computer, I wouldn't be too concerned about poor in editor performance in play mode, since with all the extra Editor overhead you are going to bottleneck on either your CPU or GPU at a far lower frame rate.

    So do all your performance testing against a build only. I typically get 2X to 3X FPS when testing from a build compared to in Editor performance.

    Pc specs: 7.7Gb ram, amd rv7, intel i7 core. I run ubuntu 20.04 lts
    The game is just a big square with 2 cubes on it, you are a fpv capsule with basic mouvement like jumping going forward and sliding.
    The performance in the build is the same as the performance in the editor.
    The profiler says that the “other” section takes up the most cpu.

    I can’t get screenshots rn but i’ll get some when I can

    The built performance doesn’t make a significant difference only 2-3 more frames.
