Hello everyone. Self portrait is a first person adventure game with psychological atmosphere and is about a bankrupt man who is trying to find a way to survive his cruel life. In Self portrait you play as Dr. Walter Pollack who is the owner of Pollack Industries, sealed by police because of illegal chemical activities, and now you can see the workers in it and the smoke is coming out of it’s chimneys. Is this a dream? Maybe a memory? “This is just a sad nightmare which is reminding me all the bad things I’ve done in my life.” Walter Pollack Right now two trailers are ready, the first one is the reveal trailer which shows three minutes of gameplay. The second one is the first story trailer which shows some actual gameplay footage and a few modified scenes. (Note that the piano scene is the actual gameplay footage.) As the project manager of this game , I'm really excited about your comments.
Thank you, we are working hard to achieve better quality and improve the atmosphere. You can find more info on our indiedb article. I'll add some new screenshots only here for discussing about technical details.
Wow great quality. Looks like an AAA title. What would be cool is if at the very first, when you start out looking at the ground with all the rain water, you could see a reflection of your face. You know because the title is Self Portrait . . .
Wow it looks incredibly awesome! The setting somehow reminds me of Escher's drawings (http://www.panoptikum.net/m-c-escher/). Can't wait to see more
Thanks. Myst is a lovely game. Thank you for your nice comment and nice suggestion. Thank you too. WOW they are amazing.

Wow. Nice trailer, great graphics. Looks really surreal. Open for some suggestions? For me there is a dissonance between the heavy visible rain and the sound. They don't match up. It really underminds the atmosphere. Little water splashes on the ground, only here and there, would help too. Quick google search yielded this: https://seblagarde.wordpress.com/2012/12/27/water-drop-2a-dynamic-rain-and-its-effects/ Might be worth checking out. The mirror scene is a really rememberable scene. It lets your game stand out from others even more. Maybe let the mirror person smash the mirror from his side, instead of just walking away. Would be a even more dramatic effect and let some credabiliy to the thread the mirror person made. That would let the player to question, if the mirror guy can hurt them and thus up stake the tension. But maybe this isn't the thing you want. Only suggestions. Good look finishing your game. The potential is definiatly there.
Thank you, Nice suggestions. Actually there are some water splashes but we can improve them. We will work on the sound too. In other parts of the game the mirror guy does a lot more, most of the game is based on the mirror guy. I appreciate any kind of suggestions.
Hello again, There are lots of information on retro games master website about this game. http://www.retrogamesmaster.co.uk/self-portrait/ Don't forget to check our indieDB article too : http://www.indiedb.com/games/self-portrait/news/self-portrait-reveal-trailer More news will come in a few days.
One of the biggest parts of Self Portrait is the factory. It took months to become a polished playable level. One photographer took lots of photos of real factories and we made the environment based on them, but we designed the level suitable for gameplay and story. Read the full article on indiedb. http://www.indiedb.com/games/self-portrait/news/factory-level For the first time Self Portrait reached the top 10 games of indiedb which is really promising for a small indie team like us.
This is the first story trailer : I also added the trailer to the first post. You can also read more information on the indieDB article by clicking here.
It's been a long time, we moved the whole project to Unity 2019.3 HDRP and this is the first screenshot. I know there is plenty of room for improvement but I appreciate any suggestion so we can improve it much more. Needs a lot of work in visual department but this is a very interesting concept and story. Would love to see it mature and get a healthy dose of visual improvements. The elements are there, but the result although practical, is not very cohesive and convincing. Feels like a programmer just put various assets and features together. It has a HUGE potential. Would definitely love to see more.
