Using unity 5.4 at the moment, but this also happens in unity 5.3.4.

This simple change (and of course having either Oculus or HTC vive plugged in) drops our FPS from 450 to 50 (a simple environment with a few rocks, plants, trees, single directional light).

Our goal is 75-95 fps, but even just a simple environment we can't get it above 50.

Is any one else seeing this issue? How can we solve it? We are seriously considering switching to Unreal, as other teams are having good results with little to no extra work out of the package. We've already put in a lot of work in unity though, have been working in unity for over 2 years, and would prefer not to switch engines.

    Thanks in advance!

Putting the environment into unreal now and checking if it's any better.
Even no environment (just a plane), has the same issue. Turn on VR, and it drops down to around 120/150, sometimes lower.

I have an intel xeon cpu e3-1231 3.40 GHZ
    24 gig ram
    nvideo geforce gtx 970

Are you using 5.3.4.p1 or vanilla 5.3.4? p1 is the only official Oculus supported version of Unity right now that wortks with 1.3.0 runtime from Oculus.

Currently using 5.3.4f1. I don't see a p1 anywhere. I also have 5.4 installed and it has the same issues.

well using vr mode will definitely decrease fps since it will cost more performance. try running the steam vr ready test to see if ur pc is ready for vr or not.

Ran and good to go. This seems like a different issue.

To get to the patch releases of Unity go to this link:

    https://unity3d.com/unity/qa/patch-releases

To get there without the link, go to Unity3d.com, click "Get Unity", then scroll down one page, then click "Patch Releases" under the Resources header.
