    Dear friends,

Paladin Studios just launched the open beta of EnerCities on Facebook!

    http://apps.facebook.com/enercities/

If you are not on Facebook, you can also play the game on its own website: http://www.enercities.eu . We ask students to register, but to bypass that, feel free to use:
    Username: Guest
    Password: guest123

EnerCities is a serious game about energy. Build your own town and try to find the perfect balance between economy, environment and your citizens' well-being!

The goal of this project is to raise awareness about global energy issues. The project receives funding from the European Commission, and therefore the game is free to play for everybody.

EnerCities was a finalist for the Unity Awards '09, in the Best Overall Game category!

Let me know what you think, and what scores you got!

    Dylan

Looks nice from the pictures but I'm not on Facebook and I don't feel like registering so I didn't get much further.
Do you really need people to register before they start playing?
Electrocity http://electrocity.co.nz/ looks pretty similar but it doesn't need a registration. If you really need people to register you could try using a OpenID style login so you can use whatever you already have.

    This looks really sweet!

Unfortunately, I'm like the dude above in that I don't use Facebook so I can't play.

Funny that social networks are increasingly often the reason I am excluded from playing games ;)

Hello guys, thanks for the feedback!

On the http://www.enercities.eu website, we ask students to register so we can track them. To bypass that, feel free to use:

    Username: Guest
    Password: guest123

Hope that's an easy work-around for now. I do take your comments seriously though, so I'll sit with the team to discuss how we can make playing the game as easy as possible.

    Thanks again!

Thanks, .Tom. ! It does seem various options exist for implementing social elements. We're learning a whole lot from this project.

So far our Unity install funnel in Google Analytics reports a 51% conversion rate (full install). I'd say that's decent, given the very broad range of people we've been inviting.

From here on, we'll be doing our best to make access to the game as smooth as possible. We also have an addition to the gameplay planned, with a bit of luck and hard work, that will happen in 2009 still.

Thanks again for your interest guys. And if you haven't checked it out yet, please do so!

Just wanted to let you guys know that in the first 10 days, our game EnerCities attracted 1200 players on Facebook. For a serious game needing a plug-in I think that's decent actually!

    Thanks for all your interest!
