I started a project in 2017, that obviusly runs in 2017.3, and i readed that the package manager was introduced in 2107.x, but it itsn't. How do i download packages/show the uiPD: update to 2018.1 would be hard due to incompatibility issues*

Why are you on 2017.3 ? Move to 2017.4 as thats the LTS version. This should solve your issue.

I'm pretty sure the package manager UI is only compatible with 2018.x actually.

It would help if you actually explained what your issue was. You're being too vague for us to actually diagnose anything.

We need to know exactly what you're trying to do to make a suggestion. Each release of Unity since the initial release of the package manager added new functionality so depending on the functionality you want to use you may need to use a newer release.

Your right, upgrading to LTS wont help. Im not really sure what OP means by UI vs API, surely if its unsupported that means all of it is unsupported.

OP more clarity would be good

It was introduced in 2017.2. You should be able to edit the manifest.json inside [Your_Project_Folder]/UnityPackageManager

That said, with no UI you'll have to research what package versions will work with your version of unity. As far as I know there aren't a whole lot of packages compatible with 2017.x

EDIT: It's worth saying, make sure you back everything up (ideally including both a repository and a local zip) before messing with the manifest.

OP What exactly would break moving from 2017 to 2018 LTS? I have personally upgraded like 10-15 enterprise projects from 2017 to 2018 LTS with no issues whatsoever
