Can anyone share their settings to setting up an overcast day environment? I've watched the Achieving high fidelity graphics for games with the HDRP video but there are a some settings I would like some clarification on (like overcast, bad weather). Used to use Enviro but they seem to not have support for HDRP yet.

I was referring to settings more about overcast lighting rather than actual clouds, etc.

Here is what I'm dealing with. Below I have an overcast HDR and some fog but the directional light is still casting crisp shadow. I want to soften it. I know that changing the shadow map resolution can make it softer but is this the solution?

    I'm using 2019.4.8f1 with HDRP 7.5.1

Overcast in real-life usually means very blurred shadows. You need to tweak light settings to achieve this. If you use real-time lighting you'll also need to enable high-quality filtering to use PCSS shadows.

Oh! Is this only available in Forward rendering?

My scene is going to be a pre-rendered cinematic so runtime performance is not an issue.

You have to enable them in the HDRP asset and then adjust in the light component settings.

If you want don't want realtime performance, then maybe RTX or Path Tracing is better for you. It will solve a bunch of issues related to the overcast environment.

    1. You must first download a overcast hdri sky from here
    2. You must disable sun light
    3. Use dynamic mode for visual environment component

here you can learn lighting basics on hdrp (just disable sun light for your case)

Try increasing the angular diameter, It'll soften the shadow edges
But to something that matches the real-life you need to use the High shadow filtering option from HDRP settings asset,
That will provide PCSS shadow filtering but will be slower, so use it sparingly.

EDIT: Saw this answer was already answered after posting this :p
