    Hello All,

Longtime lurker, first time poster, looking for feedback to help guide my projects direction.

Creating a prototype skeleton for a set of simulation games, and can't decide on what type of map is best suited for the task. Ultimately, I want them to be able to be randomly generated, grid based, and able to form cohesive segments between one another.

But between solid large maps with grid generation, tiles, hex maps, and a few others, I keep finding numerous pros and cons to each one and can't decide.

The main interactions from the user is a top-down building game. Select and place objects, interact with them, modify terrain, worker/pleb/peon interaction and commands, etc. AI pathing has been the main concern when trying the various options, and I'm leaning towards a hex map.

So, feel free to shout out your opinions, and please provide details on why you prefer one version over another.

    Many thanks!
