Old Asset Store Links Broken - 3rd Thread

Old asset store links are at least redirecting to the new asset store home page at this point which is better than the plain text 404 that was showing before. I am a little puzzled on why there is no final redirect to the correct asset. This should be as simple as a .htaccess rewrite rule.

Here are the old and new links side by side, this should be simple to make a rule from:

Old style link:
https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/60955?aid=affiliateid

Current redirect url:
https://assetstore.unity.com/#!/content/60955?aid=affiliateid

Correct redirect url, the above current redirect is wrong
https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/slug/60955?aid=affiliateid

 

Yes, this is a huge problem. Almost all asset store links are broken across the internet. It just redirects to the home page.

 

I guess Unity wants people to not buy stuff? Not sure what is going on...

 

Yeah, that seems like a massive oversight on Unity's side.

Seems the shortened links worked across changes though, whenever i had used short ones seem to still be working

e.g. this is my footer, is mixed, some work, some not

Seems as a policy i will be using only shortened versions as the full ones can be broken at any time.

 

I found a Chrome extension that fixes this situation automatically:

I looked at the source code and this is what it is doing:

Convert this link:   https://assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/ASSET_ID_NUMBER

To this link:        https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/slug/ASSET_ID_NUMBER

 

i hate it, i watch older tutorials from Brackeys and every link for assets sends me to the home page

 

Yea... this is a 5 minute change in .htaccess file. Not sure why Unity throws away thouands of dollars of lost revenue...

 

not to mention the time wasted,
to manually search for the assets that they wanted..

small pro tip, to save time
- if link is broken: https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/60955
- open any asset link from the front page, like: https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/2d/textures-materials/stylized-250-material-mega-bundle-211273
- change just the last (number) part of the URL and it works: https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/2d/textures-materials/stylized-250-material-mega-bundle-60955
- press enter, it redirects to that "60955" asset > https://assetstore.unity.com/packag...ric-clouds-and-weather-system-for-unity-60955
