Government organizations and large corporations are slow to adopt new technology. Some of them exclusively use ancient versions of Internet Explorer. If you develop "serious games" and interactive training systems for them, you have to make sure your Unity web builds run on IE, even in 2015...

No I use IE for just searching on how to do this and that not for that stuff.

    http://www.google.com/chrome/browser/ ;)

(Thought I'd mention the IE thing mostly for @bibbinator as something to keep in mind on an official level, since Unity has made inroads into the serious games market.)

Honestly, especially in 2015 I would suspect a resurrection of IE, as especially IE 10 and 11 are in some cases better then HTML5 and CSS3 support then Webkit based browers (Chrome, Opera and Safari).

I do that too, though sometimes I use Word instead to get the bullet points and stuff.

I also do this as a simple log saying what I did, and another with "urgent" TODOS and list of bugs. Documentation is KING if you want to actually get things done and not get lost on anything bigger than an Asteroids Clone.

    - Visual Studio 2013 / Visual Studio Tools for Unity / Resharper
    - TortoiseHg + Bitbucket
    - Cinema 4D (like Unity, it uses left-handed coordinate system with Y-axis up, but I still had to write a custom model post-processor to get WYSIWYG-like workflow).
    - Photoshop
    - Substance Designer / Painter / Bitmap2Material
    - Audacity
    - Internet Explorer :)

Actually, I love Internet Explorer because it's not a bloated lazy cow like most of the popular ones and always launches in half a second. It's my default browser. However, for surfing I use Opera, mostly v12. No one has beaten it in usability yet.

I used to have a simple .txt inside Visual Studio solution for tracking bugs and todos, but now I'm examining Bitbucket Issues and FogCreek FogBugz to make my notes a bit more organized.

Yeah, that's invaluable. I have a "spiral bound, A4, 96 pages, square lined notebook" on the desk in front of me, but my pens and pencils are always hiding. I suspect, my cat steals them.

    Code:
    VS for C# debugging/coding
Mono for js projects - csharpatron for conversion to c# when it's a half and half and pertinent to do so (huge codebase w/e)
notepad++ for when I mess up the project linkages and just nothing else will auto-open ;) (You've all done it)

    Art:
Substance Painter, Substance Database 2.0, Bitmap2Material pro. (Allegorithmic are the best everything ever)
Adobe Webmaster Suite Cs2 (I'm that old, still works fine)
Blender and any other bit of free stuff I need to "make something happen" including, Sketch-up, ancient flow-map generators, noise generators, Anything really.
We are considering going over to modo for some 3d pipeline stuff.
We use http://www.cgtextures.com for some content from time to time.

    Music:
We have a decently stocked music studio. It helps to be musicians.
I wasn't sure if this thread was to include hardware, but a pencil is hardware.. so... meh :p
(Yes, fancy new UT mixer, I am going to test you to death soon enough)

    Inspiration:
The inherent instability, unpredictability and wild imaginations of children. What more could one need ;)

We have also used the asset store on many occasions to facilitate a need - thus I list "Asset Store" as a tool

Some new stuff has been released, so I'd like to add some software that I use:

    - Affinity Designer* ( as already mentioned, SVG support would be great )
    - Affinity Photo*
*.affinity support would also be a handy feature for those working with both Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo. This file format works with both, A.Photo and A.Designer.

    - Visual Studio Code

    EDIT:
Alright, apparently Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo have the file types ".afdesigner" and ".afphoto" now.
For those interested, I suggested support for those formats here:
