Nothing happens, since there isn't any "professional version". There is only one Unity app; the only different versions are the Mac version and the Windows version. If you have the professional license, you're using the exact same app as somebody with the personal license.

That's not relevant though; there still aren't separate versions. If you have the personal license, and upgrade to pro, you don't download a new version, or anything extra at all. The only thing you change is the license, which changes how your copy of Unity behaves, but not a single byte of the app on disk changes. It's simply impossible to "torrent the professional version" since no such thing exists.

Btw what do you think would happen if someone found a way to crack the free version and unlock the dark theme? You think unity devs would go after these people or is it just not possible over all.

I have a slow, unstable connection, and downloading a 1.7GB file is a pain. If there's any small interruption (happens all the time here), the file stops downloading and I have to restart again. It takes hours, sometimes days to get a full release.

So... where is the torrents for 5.1.1 and 4.6.6 ?????

I can't find torrent also, but get an idea how to craft a link. Here is a template:

Where :release_id - is an ID from the bottom of "what's new" page of each release. For example:
http://unity3d.com/unity/whats-new/unity-5.1.1 have an id 2046fc06d4d8.
And :version is a version of release. You can get it from package name from Download page.

I don't think patch release are ever shared on Torrent.
Only official release are put on torrent.

That trick doesn't work anymore. It seems UT removed the Revision Number from the What's New Page.

Looks Like They make a torrent only when version updates like 5.0.0 to 5.1.0. A torrent is available for the following versions.

I think it's fine, especially when it comes free, you only get to increase your customers and people that are interested in it. This is a good reason why torrents should officially be acknowledged as a good thing if used correctly.

 

Believe it or not, some people absolutely kill for the dark skin...

 

That's part of the issue though; torrents are often used to pirate, and some ISPs actually throttle torrents to discourage it. Of course, this becomes bad when you're actually using it for, say downloading a unity update. :-/

Fortunately, my ISP doesn't throttle (at least I don't think mine does...) torrents.

 

5.3 is huge at 3+GB... thank goodness you guys have a torrent!

 

3 GB?! Wow... Unity's getting big now. (Last upgrade was 1.7GB for me)

Yes, this one seems to have confused a few people... At the very least, those who are low on disk space can use unity now. (Issue before was that with all playback engines there, the installation takes up nearly 5GB, that's why they componentized it so that installations lower than 1GB could be achievable)

why you need all the platforms?
if you need to get unity 5.3,
First download the main editor. And the platform required. Ex(Windows).
If you get only the editor, You can make games for Web Player. You doesn't need
platforms for editing. they needed for compiling and debugging(only).

i skipped this unity version, because it had lot of bugs. I'll try 5.3.1 or 5.4. maybe 5.3.1 comes soon with lot of bug fixes.

 

Because I use multiple machines, and I don't like having to download it over and over again.
5.3.1 is already out and it is as buggy as usual.

hey, did you use mac and/or windows ?
editor is only available for mac and windows. once you download, You can copy the
setup to multiple PCs. That isn't illegal. i said "Platforms" mean 23 platforms that you
can publish your game to. not editor. are you a studio or
learning?

old version is good for learning. also you can make good with it.
did you know still developers use old versions, example Temple run uses
Unity 3. so far from 5.3.1 ?

 

I use both and from multiple machines (windows / osx desktop and laptops)
The setup is only the basic installer, doesn't include any of the downloads, so copying it now is pointless as you still have to redownload it all.

I actually think it's very good for those who like download from torrent, I'm using Unity Installer at all, reasons are that it's very fast and also not needs manually making install. just click couple time and unity with platforms are installed.

Yes it appears there is no longer a torrent link for the latest version. Kind of a shame that they would just sort of stop doing it. Sure we could probably find a torrent for it somewhere, or the community could do it, but it was nice to have an official one from a trusted source

 

Well, I think the "latest" version wasnt normally up to date in the links for download, you where always like some numbers behind.

 

Torrent downloading is a great decision for Unity3D, unless you're under an ISP that blocks torrenting.
