    Hi Lovely People!

    Starting with Unity 5.0.0, we've decide to make Unity available via an official torrent. You can always access the torrent file via the "Additional Downloads" drop-down on the download page.

    In this first iteration, all possible downloads (Editor Installers, Sample Asset Installers, Demo Project Installers) for both platforms are available in a single torrent. You can download only the components you want by choosing those in your torrent client.

    Please give it a go for faster downloads and let us know your thoughts and experience!

    I think this is a great move. It lets people get the download much faster, and it takes the load off of Unity Tech's servers and wallet. (Since they won't have to pay for nearly as much bandwidth.)

    Torrent is great.. just downloaded... sharing at 1.2 MB/s :)... activation server is busy not related whit torrent....

    So the direct download went four times as fast as the torrent for me. I believe I'm experiencing some ISP throttling somewhere.

    Threw 3 of our gigabit servers on the torrent. Right now, they're sitting pretty at about 3-6MB/sec each, and each having uploaded about 200 gigs. I'll keep them up for another couple of days until the torrent is well-seeded. :)

    This is great! But I didn't see this until after I downloaded from the web page. More importantly, I couldn't find the standard assets or example projects when downloading from the web page, which made me google for an hour because I thought I had an install error (in Unity 4, the standard assets were included in the editor installer I believe).

    Should I comment on the torrent or on Unity 5? Downloading was fine, getting it to install took a very long time (slowed my computer down and I thought nothing was happening). After installing I opened Unity and looked around a little, then closed it again and Unity crashed. I opened it again, played around with some things, Unity crashed again when I was looking to the new shaders and applying them to some model. I think I'm going back to 4.x because 5 isn't production ready if you ask me, 2 crashes in 2 random sessions is a little too much for me to chew. For the record I'm running Windows 7 ultimate.

    I think it's a great idea; no problem downloading via torrent at launch day
    activation was a different story, though :)

    Great idea. How about implementing some "barebones" torrent client into that "downloading installer" so it could use torrent?

    Also, for the future, I think it would be great if we'd get some "Unity Launcher", similar to those used by some MMOs that would automatically update our version of Unity so we won't have to download installer and install it by hand.

    This is a great idea. I love Unity...but I hate updating it. It takes about 30 minutes to download from the website. 5 minutes from the torrent.

    and setting up another torrent client with proper port for port forwarding etc while whatever has user already installed is better integrated into OS, more user friendly, regularly updated etc ? no, thanks.

    I downloaded it via torrent, and it worked fine. Not any better or worse than normal downloading, I suppose. I preferred the download assistant from the beta, because then I didn't have to hunt around for the files. But that really was minor.

    Built-in as already preconfigured and all you have to do is to click "enable outgoing traffic" in Windows Firewall window. As for ports... UPnP is a thing. And it would be build into installer so no config would be needed, it will work in background, downloading Unity from a torrent for you instead of that pesky, incredibly slow HTTP thing.

    .. UPnP is not a thing to an extent that every router/network environment has is - available, - turned on, not turned off on purpose
    so.. no

    not to mention that I'd rather UT to spend their time and effort on more important things that some fancy auto updater with questionable value
    a torrent file is perfectly fine

    I love it! P2P approach is easy, fast and costfree! The only down is... it doesn't look serious, because can be related for not able to maintain servers, bandwidth and support.

    But modern approach! Like it!

    I Got It in some Hours. Torrent Is Good. Because I Shut Down My PC 2 Times When It Downloads, Disconnected The Network Lot Of Times

    Why would they? All engine features are available for free of charge. Professional edition includes only online services and dark skin.
