Octave3D-Level Design - Snapping, Prop placement, Multi-Prefab painting

    Hi there,

    I can see in the last screenshot that you have the snap grid Y offset set to 1. This means that objects will reside one unit up alon the world up axis.

    In the first screenshot I can see you are using Unity's grid settings. Those have no effect on the plugin. The UI which you can see in the last screenshot is where you can configure grid settings :)

    Hello good I have a query. When I use the path method for creation. The objects are created with a millimeter space between each other. I have a very small space, they don't exactly stick next to each other. It only happens to me in the path method, in the manual creation, the objects align perfectly, why can it be happening?

    Hello,

    I am not sure what could be happening except that maybe the objects contain sligh irregularities along the edges which cause them to be pushed slightly away from each other. Path placement uses the object bounding volume to calculate the object position so it is different from normal snapping.

    I think one way you could solve this is if you change the Padding along extension plane value to a small negative such as -0001 for example. It could take some trial and error, but it should work.

    It is comming for sure but not so soon I'm afraid. Still have many features to implement. No eta is possible at the moment.

    Hello everyone,

    I am interested to know what is the general preference when it comes to written doc vs video tutorials. Please feel free to vote. I am really interested to know your opinion. Also feel free to post any comments.

    Just a quick note: the remake isn't finished yet, still some work to do, but it is coming along nicely.
    Also, regardless of the poll results, video tutorials will be available. I am using the poll to decide whether or not to write a documentation for the plugin. Not a huge fan of doing it :D, but if the results suggest that it is something that you would like to have, I will do it.

    I definitely prefer videos, especially for a tool is complex as this. I imagine it would be difficult to explain with written words

    It seems that this only works if I haven't grouped objects into a hierarchy, otherwise it treats the whole thing as a single object. It makes it hard to organize a scene and still be able to move individual pieces with snapping. Is there a setting I'm missing that will change that behavior?

    Inside the Selection UI, you can set the selection mode to Single object as shown in the following image:

    Thanks, I did try that, but I noticed that even after I changed it to Single Object when I would try to use V to snap, it would move all the objects, not just the one I had selected.

    Ok, I think I got it now. I need to make use of groups. Helps to watch tutorials...

    (1)About use tile connections, This function is very powerful, but it is often unavailable. When I remove the active configuration file and drag the prefab to the 7 tiles again, it will resume normal work.Thanks.

    (2)Why does dragging up and down change the color? Thank you. Look at the screenshot.
    I guess it's the normal problem of the model.

    Can you please clarify point 1?

    2. I am not sure why that happens, but I guess it could flip the model depending on the direction it's going in.

    I plan to remove this feature in the next update and it will be replaced by a different spawn mode which will basicaly do the same thing, but it won't be tied down to segments. It will operate on a tile map and I plan to make it more flexible. Currently, tile connections are only detected inside the segments that are being spawned (existing objects in the scene are ignored).

    (1) For example, when I restart the unity engine, the Use tile connections do not generate objects in the scene.I have to drag it to the first one again to use it normally.

    (2)The second problem has been solved. I unpacked the modelprefab of the obj model, and then only used the sub model file, which caused problems with my prefab.

    Hello,

    Can you try the following:
    1. Select the Octave3D object in the hierarchy view;
    2. In the Inspector set the tag to EditorOnly.

    Hi there

    Not sure what has happened, but when I try to use the world builder today, the grid is not showing up and even though the hotkeys are working for the prefabs to move, I cannot use any of the snapping onto the object. This was working a couple of days ago and I don't believe I've made any changes to Octave3D

    Please could someone help

    Okay fixed this, looks like by turning on Gizmo. Although the grids are now fully black and it goes on forever. It looks quite strange. Any chance we can reset that grid?

    Is there a way to rotate objects in prefab view? One sided rendering objects are not visible in the prefab view.

    Good evening.
    Placing props on top of terrains and other objects were working fine before, but now, I run to a problem that every time I try to place props/objects, they don't go on top of the object instead they go on the grid.
    How do I solve this problem?

    Hello,

    Can you try pressing the Refresh scene button in the Inspector (below the main toolbar)? And then try again.

    I clicked the Refresh scene button but it didn't help. What else could I do?

    Hello,

    Honestly, I do not know what could be causing this issue. Can you try the following please? Find the actual mesh asset in your project (the mesh of the object you wish to place objects on) and make sure it has the read-write enabled toggle checked in its import settings. Let me know if this works.

    I'm afraid not. But if you are allowed to share the mesh asset you are using, I can play around with it and see what the issue is. If you can do that, please feel free to export a package containing the prefab in question and I will check it out. You can send it at octamodius@yahoo.com

    Hello everyone!

    I would like to let you know that I have just uploaded the Remake to the store. It is now live :)
    The name of the plugin was changed to GSpawn - Level Designer.

    It's possible I will start a new thread, but I am not sure. I will post a link here if that is the case.

    So, a quick outline of the most important features that were added:
    -3D Tile Rules;
    -Curve Spawn (spawn objects along curves);
    -Physics Spawn (spawn with physics simulation);
    -Modular Wall Spawn (spawn wall with inner & outer corner detection);

    As far as improvements go, I think the list is long, but I will just mention the ability to rotate prefab previews and configurable shortcuts. It's essentially the same tool, but with what I believe to be many UI/UX improvements.

    I suggest you start with the intro videos listed in the description and then check out the docs. :cool:

    I hope you like this new version :)

    Yeah, well competition in the Level Design segment is now pretty strong, and yours is by far the most expensive one though at $89.

    I want to know, is Octave3D Level Design and spawn-Level Designer the same? If so, what is the minimum version of unity editor they support? Before I looked at Octave3D Level Design, 2019 was available, but the minimum support for GSpawn is 2022.

    GSpawn is a complete overhaul of Octave3D. The minimum required Unity version for GSpawn is Unity 2021.3.27
