In the years I've been using Unity, any time I would select an object in the Scene View, that object would appear in the hierarchy. The hierarchy would scroll to a point where the selected object is visible, and it would highlight.

Now, for some reason, the object will still highlight in the Hierarchy, but it no longer automatically scrolls to it. So I have to poke around in the Hierarchy to find the object. If the object is in a sub directory, it can eat up a lot of time to track the thing down.

I suspect this is just a hotkey I accidentally pressed, but couldn't find mention of this anywhere.

    Please help! Thanks,

    Chris

I have the same problem! It's strange, perhaps it's a Unity bug with Lastest Patch Versions?

I found a solution! Unlock the "PadLock" on the Upper Right corner of Hierarchy Window.

People seem to be having 2 issues here.
    1. If you click objects in your scene, the hierarchy view will still focus on the selected object. but the inspector won't change. that's not a bug, its actually a feature :)
fix: click on the lock icon in the top right of your inspector window.

    2. your inspector isn't locked but the hierarchy won't focus/show the object you select in your scene.
This does seem to be a bug. (I encountered this after editing my project on a mac, and later on a pc again)
fix: this, choose a different layout in window - layout
After that you can reload your own layout again (if you saved it) or rearrange everything to your liking again.

Thanks, this has been driving me crazy for the past few weeks. Had not realized my project hierarchy had a little lock on it. :D

Just came across this bug. Inspector was stuck on the selection of one object, and even though I could click on other objects, only that one object showed up in it.

Nothing was locked. Deleting the object from the project didn’t even solve it, the only thing that worked for me was closing and restarting Unity, and just losing the hour or so of unsaved work up until that point.

What a ridiculous bug to have.

Had the same problem, with nothing locked.
@mgear solution with changing layout and then changing it back cleared it.

I had this issue also just now, I solved it by clearing the search bar at the top of the hierarchy, somehow, the terrain I was using was in there... Hope this helps someone! :)
