Google just introduced an updated ARCore SDK Preview with many stability and performance improvements. They’ve also confirmed the commercial version (ARCore v1.0), which will come at a later day will support over 100 million devices.

Here is on overview of some of the main technical improvements introduced with the updated ARCore SDK Preview:
    • C API is now a public Android NDK that complements the existing ARCore SDK for Unity.

    • Pause and resume AR sessions. With ARCore, AR apps can now pause a session and continue tracking after app is resumed.

    • Improved runtime efficiency. Faster time-to-plane-detection.

    • Improved trackable and anchor interface across anchor, plane finding, and point cloud APIs.

    • Many other stability and performance improvements
Google and Unity are committed to enable our developers to SHAPE THE WORLD! The time is now to experiment with ARCore for Unity.

    Excellent news!

I do see two gotchas with this release that's worth highlighting:

    * Apps built with the original ARCore SDK Developer Preview are only compatible with the original arcore-preview.apk. Apps built with ARCore SDK Developer Preview 2 are only compatible with arcore-preview2.apk

    * Unity 2017.3.f2 and up required.

    And still no S8+ support?

EDIT: Sorry for complaining before giving it a go. It actually works! The S8+ is still not listed in the supported device, but I installed the new package and ARCore apk and works like a charm!
