No Retina resolution in windowed mode on Mac?

    Hi there,

I'm struggling with my first Unity build for the Mac App Store. After a week of research, I still come up with three major questions:

    a) Is it possible to have a Mac app rendering in full Retina resolution when running in a window?

I do achieve full crisp 2880x1800 in fullscreen mode (capture display), but not in windowed mode.

Problem is that many people seem to prefer window mode over fullscreen mode - and they will probably wonder why their Macbook Retina Display isn't supported by the game app they're playing.
I even thought about dropping window mode entirely, but I fear that would be a bad decision.

    b) Is there a way to avoid the screen slowly flashing 4 times (!) with every loading of a new scene (seems like display mode changes, though not necessary) ? Always feels like the app is about to crash.

    c) When changing from windowed to fullscreen retina mode, the mouse cursor is tiny and mapped to a gigantic 5760x3600 screen (2 times retina size). Toggling fullscreen on/off several times does not fix this. Using a custom software cursor can fix the looks of it, but that cursor can be moved way out of screen.

All this observed on a MacBook Pro with 2880 x 1800 Retina screen and OS X 10.8.4.

Thank you for any kind of help!

    Best,
    Thomas

    Hi Thomas,

did you find out any solutions for your questions? I'm especially interested in your first question.

    Best regards,

I just ran into these problems today too. Pretty crazy how hard Unity is dropping the ball here.

Couldn't hurt to post another one. Seems that it's Apple's issue though as every game I run does this (or rather, it's something all games need to update to account for?). It seems to be related to the way OS X handles higher DPI apps. If an app doesn't explicitly support higher DPI then it's told your screen resolution is a quarter of what it is, so that the app displays at the same apparent size.

I found a little menu bar app called RDM that will allow you to switch OS X's resolution to a standard one that doesn't tell any app that the display is "hiDPI" simply very high resolution, and games work correctly then.
