No idea from where to start Character Controller script

Hello, so I'm new to unity and scripting.

I was wondering if some help is possible to help me out with a problem I am running into for the past few days. I am making a 2D side scrolling platformer that consists of the character always moving forward, the catch is, the player can flip the character to change the direction he is going, with the tap of a button. The player can also jump with the touch of another button. Also, the character flips by himself as soon as he walks into a wall, any help, or ideas on how to do this will help me a lot. Yes, they are, but I can't find exactly what I need, I have spent the whole week, without success
