Question No free version of Unity VCS anymore? I mean free = no credit card at sign up

I teach a high school game design course. Unity changes their version control every 6 months to one year completely.

We used to be able to have groups of 3 for free, then it became groups of 5 with student educational licenses through GitHub, then it switched to Plastic SCM and kept the semi free model.

Now any student who doesn't yet have an organization on Plastic SCM cloud cannot create one without a credit card being input. Students who already have an organization can use it for free under the required limits (3 people? 1GB?).

Anyone have an answer - is the only way to create a new Plastic SCM cloud organization to enter credit card info for each student? That puts the school credit card on the hook for them going beyond the limits, rather than just giving us a red error saying at max capacity.
