Kind of some flawed logic although not a completely misplaced notion. Just because a niche is untapped, that still doesn't mean there is going to be a market for it. I just don't imagine most doing this are going to suddenly find there was some magical void of games that people have been waiting their whole lives to play.

At best what you're just making a game based purely off the potential of SEO. It's about on par with just doing things based off market research.

Well what are the chances that you are going to make another clone that is going to have to compete against hundreds of other games in the genre -- why would they bother playing your game over the other hundreds of similar games that already exist in the market (are you going to have better graphics, net code, level design etc) or that you can simply find a untapped niche and create a game for it thus winning by default (in the sense that you dont have to compete against hundreds of other games).

If your game is just another game that already exists -- why would any bloggers/youtubers care about covering your game, if you dont get any press your game is essentially DOA - dead on arrival. Take that golf game on IOS for example there are 400 other golf games, why would the bloggers really care about another game -- unless it blew away the competition -- and good luck with that.

Hmmm a quick search shows there are "opossum curling" games on steam.

    Success, here I come!

Gotta say that video is pretty hilarious. My favorite bit was all you have to do is create a unique game... from a starter kit. heh.

Market research is valuable, of course. This kind of competition research is very similar to what the "Make Money Online" gurus of Internet Marketing are always preaching. Back when I had some websites making money I used keyword research to locate niches. It worked fairly well. At one time I was making $1,400 per month in purely passive income from just a few websites. I'd say what the video is covering is nothing new at all but certainly if a person is not familiar with these basic concepts they should at least watch the video and learn.
