Total noob, first day of unity

I did a build of the Character Animation demo and have an html file and .unity3d file that works fine on my desktop.

I want to embed it on a Wordpress blog, just as a test. I have installed the plugin from here:

    http://unity3d.com/support/resources/assets/unity-wordpress-blog-plugin

I activated the plugin but if I try to upload the .unity3d file as 'media' , i get an error message

“WebPlayer.unity3d” has failed to upload due to an error
File type does not meet security guidelines. Try another...

What am I doing wrong? I've read the plugin documentation; Wordpress don't seem to have any help on their site/forums

    thanks, Ste

I didn't even know this plugin existed. Once an answer is found I might install it as well. Hopefully someone can help.

The plugin can't seem to find the data file when I add a .unity3d file to the tag as instructed in the readme. Might be a unity 3.x problem.

These are the steps I take each time I include a Unity player on my blog.
(Note: This is assuming you have installed the unity plugin files.)

    1. Upload content to media folder
    Include:
    - Image File for previewing on blog
    - Unity.html file
    - Unity.unity3d file

    FTP Location is:
    EXAMPLE-> 'http://WEBSITE.com/YOUR WP LOCATION/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/(files uploaded to here)'

    2. Go to Admin (login)

    3. Click on either Categories or Pages (which ever you are updating) and select appropriate posting spot

    4. In Text box area (on right hand side) click on the Visual Tab.

    5. Straight across on the left hand side, click on the ‘Add an Image’ or ‘Add Media’ icon.

    6. Choose image file to represent the web player file (Click the ‘Show’ button to bring up its options, then, click on the ‘Insert into Post’ at the bottom)

    7. While in the Visual Tab, click on the new image, then click on the ‘Link’ button (chain connected icon above) and paste the following into the URL Link (example html file):
    URL Link:'http://WEBSITE.com/YOUR WP LOCATION/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/Unity.html'

That’s it. The final step (if you are using a Shadowbox plugin) will let the Shadowbox.js plugin know we want to post a unity file in to it.

    8. With the image loaded. Go to the HTML tab. At the beginning of the code “<a”, copy and paste the following code right after it -> rel="shadowbox".

Or you can go to the image -> Advanced Settings and add 'shadowbox' to the Advanced Link Settings/Link Rel.

I hope this helps. It was a bit tricky first time around, but it does work nicely. Let me know if you run in to problems along the way. Thank you.

You really need both the .unity3d and the html? Thanks!

OOPS! Still a problem! The uploader keeps complaining about the .unity3d file. What do I do?

Just follow Prof. Walkers post above. To be clear, Step #1 is to upload using FTP, don't use the browser-based upload tool.

Did a quick check and it works fine on my end.

The issue you get with the unity3d file, could be the file location. Can you provide a bit more information about what you are doing.

    Thank you.

Ah, so you have to use an FTP tool to upload it... WP uploader doesn't like .unity3d files then?
