What video formats and codecs are used to play video with alpha transparency?

    Hi hotdes,

Unless I'm mistaken, there is no spec for how to have transparency added for VP9 file, but such a spec exists for VP8: http://wiki.webmproject.org/alpha-channel

In the VideoPlayer software decoding, we have implemented support for reading webm files that have vp8 with transparency. We didn't integrate support for vp9 yet, but this will be a future release. Note that Android supports hardware vp8 decoding and doesn't appear to support this type of transparency. In this case, if you ask Unity to transcode with alpha, the transparency will be added differently (both in H.264 and VP8) and will work on all platforms. The downside of course is the transcode is quite long if your media is not trivially small.

    Hope this helps,
